I've been playing around with mine now for the last two hours or so and I'm really enjoying it. I've only used the question mark card from the AR cards, I'm not sure what the others do yet but I'm assuming they are different games. My sister was very freaked out when a dragon came out from underneath the dining table.
Anyway, I've downloaded an update which appeared to add a 3D movie to the home screen, I was quite impressed with that, especially the water splashing, really cool. As for build quality, I've never owned a DSi so I haven't got anything like that to compare it to, I do have a PSP Go and this feels way more sturdy than that, though I couldn't complain about the build quality on the PSP either. I do like the way the hinge clicks into place and I really love the blue finish, it's almost pearlescent, looks really cool imo.
The home screen is nice, I arranged my icons into two rows as it made navigation easier for me instead of just one long row. As for the actual 3D I'm really impressed with it, I've only ever seen one recent-ish film in 3D, and that was about 2 or 3 years ago when it was sort of becoming mainstream, with glasses, and it was rubbish. This just blows my previous 3D experiences away, it's not so much a popping out of the screen effect, it's more of a feeling of incredible depth, I really like it, though after an hour or two of usage I have turned the 3D off for now as I'm tired anyway and it does make your eyes work a little bit more than they usually do.
The game I picked up was Splinter Cell 3D, it's better than I expected, I'm about three quarters of the way through the first mission, so I haven't played a great deal so far but a few things I thought were really good. I like the lock picking and I also like the way you use the optic cable underneath doors, you basically tilt the whole system left and right and it moves the cable left and right. Initially when I read about this I thought it was a dumb idea as you would lose the 3D effect but the game actually disables the 3D effect when you enter the optic cable mode so the image doesn't distort at all, I like it. The aiming isn't amazing, in my short playtime I've already needed to take out two enemies quickly and struggled to do so, so I can see that needing a bit of time to get used to.
All in all though I'm really happy with the system and can't wait for more games to come out. From the current lineup I wouldn't mind trying Street Fighter and PES. I've added my friend code to the thread too.
