****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

Yes. Have you played ridge racer 3d? Either its a horrible little game or the mgs demo is pre rendered.

You're picking examples that don't look great anyway. Even Ridge Racer on the PS1 was hardly the epitome of amazing graphics, there were far better looking games even back then. The Metal Gear vid uses the in-game engine, either way I don't really see the point you're trying to make, nobody would buy this on graphical horsepower, they would buy it for the 3D effect and and for the quirky games that you often associate with Nintendo consoles.

Indeed although I liked playing various Ridge Racer games and am enjoying the 3DS version, they havn't been a good example of a consoles graphical power since the original playstation, even the PS3 version version for example is pretty poor compared to other ps3 launch games like Motorstorm.

Ultimately its the first line of games, most of which are probably rushed to make the launch whether the designers would admit to that or not.

Well I came home with my nice shiny new 3DS sitting waiting for me :D

Been playing with it a couple hours now the 3D is really amazing imo dead impressed with it. The AR games are pretty damm fun imo really love that idea hope they bring more of those out :p

I got lego star wars as the 3ds game, I'm really loving it great game and the 3d really adds well to it. I must say tho I am looking at getting the Ghost Recon as that looks pretty awesome. But gunna just play through lego star wars to start with.

Personally I'm glad I bought it. Great little console and hopefully as mentioned nintendo will bring more quirky games and AR :) to it which will be awesome.

Totally get Golden Retriever. If I had vouchers I would have got Nintendogs, it looks fun and I love cats and dogs. As it stands I've got Splinter Cell, can't wait to get home and have a blast. :)

In that order imo.

I'm glad to read that, its the only game I own till I probably pick another up tomorrow and it gave me some concerns.

Looks like I'm going out to get GR.

Try out the built in games, they shouldn't ghost.

GR is easily the best launch game imo.

I ordered the Golden Retriever Nintendogs, Sims3 and Pilotwings Resort for my niece. :D Methinks that will keep her happy for a while.

Definitely considering getting one for myself for OOT...

Ridge Racer revolution looked pretty good for the day though. I remember as it was my first Ridge Racer game. but irrespective of that the point i was making was that the new 3ds is all about 3D imagery, yet i dont think that the hardware is powerful enough to give 3d polygonal 3d performance at a level that people are expecting or would want.

In terms of raw performance its only slightly better than a PSP, and whilst its fill rate etc is higher, it has many more pixels to fill...(by virtue of having 2 screens). And you already said that the PSP wasnt that fantastic at 3d stuff...

The reason i buy nintendo is predominantly 2d games, like Mario Kart, Final Fantasy (early ones not new ones) Pokemon and all are fine in 2D style..

in 3 years will PSP-esque graphics be good enough? i just dont know! I have owned every major iteration of the GB series though, from GB, GBA, DS, DSXL, and i will probably own a 3ds at some point too..

I love my 3DS, but can't get on with the 3D. I can't seem to focus so well with it even on its low settings.

Ridge Racer and Pilotwings are actually unplayable for me in full 3D.
