Back to being 10 years old, into your living room now!

I'm a bit confused, as it seems several other people are in this thread - do you mean stuff that's in your living room now that would have amazed you when you were 10? Or stuff that amazed you when it was in your living room at the age of 10? I assume from your OP and the fact you're 39 that you mean the former, in which case...

1) 46" TV - no-brainer, we had a 28" TV when I was 10 and seeing the wall-mounted beast we have now back then would have been crazy.

2) All that space - my first house was not huge, and the living room in my place now is easily 3 times the size of the one from back then

3) Four dogs and three cats - back when I was 10 I wanted a dog more than pretty much anything. We had a spaniel when I was growing up but he died when I was pretty young (6 or so) and hadn't got another dog by that point. We picked up a jack russell a couple of years later but the house was empty without them. Never had cats before, picked up two of them a few weeks after the jack russell and one of them's still around, but the house was pretty bare when I was 10.

Probably my 50" plasma, surround sound and HTPC. Back when I was 10 we only had something like a 20" CRT thing. I'd also never seen a computer when I was 10, let alone have one in the house..

My pets would have amazed me when I was 10, they do now to be honest! I've got a skink, two mantids and a few giant african land snails in my living room, would have spent hours watching them when I was a kid. :D

I'm going down the naughty road and saying porn on tap.

Yes, there was a joy as a wee lad getting the odd softcore scene, or a woman running round with her top off on Eurotrash. Yes there was immense skill involved in finding those scenes and not being caught. But how much easier would life had been if le pornings was on tap like it is today?

i was 10 only 5 years and 10 months ago :P

so for me

1. the led 42" tv with a thickness of about 1cm :D
2. the recliner sofa
3.the fluffiness of the carpet :)

It's got to be the smartphone. It was 1996 and I had just been given a 486 PC capable of a fraction of what an smartphone can do. I had only ever heard about the internet on television. The fact that you could now browse it on a phone less than a centimetre thick, download music, watch videos, make video calls...

Actually scratch that, being 10 it would have been the PS3 :p

I'd have probably just gone back outside to play. If I was stuck inside though, I'd most likely have taken the Wii to pieces. I was curious at that age.

Smartphones , they amaze me even now so back then it would just be WTF

Infact they combine all the gadgets of my youth into something half the size of the Walkman that once amazed me

Same here it would have been 1982.. Not sure what would have happened if I saw an iPhone, Plasma, PS3, laptop, all in one go.

Probably would have needed some kind of smelling salts to get me back off the floor.

The last one is not strictly speaking in my living room

The only techy thing I can remember being impressed by was the remote control on my nan's telly. It fascinated me. :o

As for all the modern guff I'd probably just go 'meh' or whatever the mid 80's equivalent was, then go back outside and get up to mischief. :D Such gimmicks didn't have a massive hold on me at that age, and if I'm honest I think the kids back then were better without all the stuff they have now.
