Problem is stats are far to simplistic.

I don't mind helping to protect civilians, but I think we have pushed to far into the legal but grey area.

What are the plane buffs' on here opinions of the Rafale ?

It's a nice aircraft.

In a quick comparison to the Typhoon, it has less powerful engines, so it cant go as fast, nor can it supercruise, nor can it go as high as the Typhoon. It also cant do high speed / high G turns as well as the Typhoon. But, it can take off from a carrier which the Typhoon can not, and can manouver very well at slow/average speeds. It can also take out targets on the ground with great effect which the RAF Typhoon currently can not.

Probably the best jet in the world that can operate from sea at the moment.

Thats what I make of it anyway.

Looks sexy too.

how do you know it wasnt the rebels breaking the ceasefire limke they broke the no fly zone trying to make it look like it was gaddafi?
because we were watching gaddafi armour and artillery attacking as it happened there wasnt even a pause, which is why the response was so quick from the french.

im not sure on your point though as i supported the intervention even before the ceasefire.

typhoon can, its cleared for paveway and storm shadow with brimestone coming into affect in a bit. that was only initial production of typhoon tranche 1, up to block 8 i believe.

bs we dont know wether they really did stop or wether they did and returned fire the rebels were never going to cease fire anyway ,you know it and so does the UN

would you like to provide evidence that the UN knew the rebels broke the ceasefire or would?

and again, i still see this as irrespective of the point, the resolution is worded to protect civilians and not on the balance of the breaking of the ceasefire, that was a offer that we extended separately.

and again, in my opinion we should be involved anyway even without resolution or ceasefire. in fact we should have moved in as soon as he gathered his forces, not waited till he was at bengazi's gate.

in fact reading from your past posts in this thread it seems to me you just cant accept that the west is doing something right. your delusions of reality even involve thinking france is a weak nation compared to libya. you seem to feel the need to support anything that is contradictory to a "mainstream" view.

Ok so I apologise for being a bit blinkered here - I have not read the entire thread, but we are in Libya because.........?

I find this interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12760367

Its ok Cameron saying we should deploy our military because we have the 4th largest funded military in the world, but, we are skint, so wtf are we doing in Libya? do you really think we can pave bomb the rebels a path all the way to Gadafi's bedroom?

I just watched this video that was suggested to me on youtube, the guy that speaks first sounds an awful lot like the "THE WEST IS TO BLAME" people in this thread.

Problem is Hitchens spends more time calling the chap names than actually just answering the question.

He can be a pompous old fart sometimes and it's not very becoming or necessary of someone with his skills in debate.

Interestingly the poll has now tipped in favour of the military action.

It seems that Gaddafi is using plain clothed troops now in amongst the civilians and rebels, which means that allied forces cant use air strikes.

Could this mean a ground invasion is becoming more and more inevitable?

I've not read the thread.

All I can say is this situation annoys me more than I can express in words.

We shouldn't be sending our men to give their life doing things like this, this isn't about saving the people, this is political.

Where were we when other terrible things were happening in the World? oh wait, they didn't involve oil or America...

Seems the rebels are gaining ground. Hope they continue to do this. Who knows what their motivation and end goal is (they probably haven't even thought this far), but they certainly can't be worse for us than Gaddafi, not after this.

The military enjoy doing things like this, oh and women are involved too!

So, what's the point of armed forces then?

(methinks you should also read the thred)
