Census - other Religion option?

I am unsure of my beliefs and their validity, hence agnostic.
.

Which isn't a religion and hence that's the answer. It's a yes or no statement. do you have a religion or not, it makes no assumption of what your beliefs then are if you say no, just simply you have no religion.

The problem is the assumption of some groups who see "no religion" as equalling Atheist. I am not, the question is ambiguous thus I ignored it.

If my house is any indicator of overall trends then the 72% Christian demographic will remain.

I abstained, my Wife, Son and Father-in-Law all put Christian, my Brother put no-religion.

Which gives roughly the same split.

He doesn't know, he is undecided.

How people define their beliefs or how they exercise them is up to them. My Father-in-law hasn't been to Church in all the time I've known him, he still says he is Christian, he believes in Christian values and as for God, he says he will find out for sure in due course.

What right has anyone to tell him he is not a Christian. In the same way as what right has anyone to tell me whether my agnosticism constitutes No Religion as a statement of belief.

The question is optional for a reason.

The question isn't asking you what your belief in God is, it's asking you whether you're religious or not... They aren't the same.

No religion is a statement of decision..

How, no religion simply means you have no religion, which you don;t it doesn't ask for your stance. As i said it's a simple yes or no question. It does not delve deeper into your actual beliefs (religious or not).

Of course ignoring it is valid as it's optional I just don't understand why in your position.

Atheism isn't a religion. :o

No, it isn't. But it is my answer to the question "what is your religion?", just like if "bald" isn't a hair colour but is the answer to the question "what is your hair colour?". There's a whole load of stuff reasonably lumped under "no religion" that I prefer to distinguish myself from.

Because No-Religion implies I have a position on the question, I do not, thus No-Religion would be the wrong answer.

There should have been a "Don't know/care" option - this is distinct from "no religion". I appreciate the statement is not "there is no religion", but to say one has "no religion" is a step too far.

Last census 72% put Christianity down, she has a fair point. They aren't practising Christians and as such shouldn't put it down. These census and stats govern a lot of future planning and opinion. .

My mother had filled my section in for me and we almost got in to a small argument over her wanting to tick 'christian' as I was christened at birth and went to church until I was 10. However being much older and having not been to church in over a decade, my uncle is a Buddhist, my father was Jewish and I have decided I am an atheist.

'Oh it doesn't matter if we tick christianity'
'Yes it does'
'I'm not having you be a heathen!'
'Tough ****! change it, I practise Islam as much as I do Christianity so I might as well tick that too then eh?
