March in London on the 26th?

That's easily half a million, probably more.
Which is impressive, this is every single person the Unions and Labour movement could get to attend for what they think is the most important protest ever!! Even Red Ed compared it to the civil rights protests in the US. No stone was left unturned in weeks of preparation to get the maximum number of people there.

Impressive...

And then you consider the Premier League averages 687,430 people through the gates week in, week out. Many of the posters here, TUC representatives and Labour activists have insisted that the government must change it's policies to accomadate the opinions of the 500,000 (at best) people that went for a walk on a saturday afternoon.

By my reconing that put's them a way behind the 687,000 people who chose to go to watch football week in week out, and so i'm afraid using their own argument based on numbers, the TUCs demands will have to wait to be considered somewhere after the football fans.

Trying to use numbers to prove a point and then adding perspective - it's a bitch... :D

Please tell me Superewza's a joke and not real

As for the violence? There was very little of it. Nobody was hurt. Actually, the police were the only violent ones. Violence means attacking people. What some were doing was attacking property. Of which there is no such thing. There's personal property, which you need to survive and to exercise your craft, and there's private property - which implies that you have something that somebody else needs and they must earn it. This is not the case, it is just an illusion.

Outside what appeared to be the Black Bloc were attacking property, and good on them for doing so - brilliant organization on their part.

You're joking, right?!

Oh dear.

I bet you were one of the people armed with a camera from Nikon or Canon, a nice pair of Nike trainers and quaffing a lovely ice cold can of Coca Cola.

Actually i was in my walking boots with a camera from Fujica with some homemade sandwiches. All i had to drink was water. Not that i see your point, but still :)

Not from what I saw.

Oh, you were there were you? Might have seen you.

But wasn't thousands of pounds worth of stock stolen? Or at least that is what reports from the police are saying right now.

No. Nothing was stolen, nothing was broken. I did hear something about somebody accidentally knocking over a pile of chocolate bunnies but they were made to pick them all up.

Why 'good on them'? What kind of sociopath are you? Or is this all about your politics of envy and fantasy?

Good on them for standing up for what they believe in, and showing those who have all the power in this world that they can't have it all their own way. Why is peaceful protest the only valid form in your eyes? Although, i guess there isn't any valid form of protest for somebody who never does stand up for what they believe in, and spends all their time spouting their views on an internet forum.

Peaceful protest is good, especially with these numbers. But any form of protest where the force used is proportional to the cause is perfectly acceptable.

The consensus seems to be around the 250,000 to 300,000 mark, so no.

Nope, they were estimates made before the march. Actual numbers were far higher, TUC stopped counting. Like the CND marches in the 80s, there were easily a quarter of a million then, police said 40,000.

It was way more than that.

I'd agree. We were late and shuffled into the march at Westminster bridge (not 100% sure it was this bridge, I don't know London well) and ended up at Hyde Park 3.5hrs before some of our group that got to teh starting point had even set out! We left Hyde Park about 4 hours after getting there and people were still streaming in.

I've been to plenty of gigs and games at Wembley and there seemed to be more people than 5X wembley at capacity. Wembley way is about as wide as the route the march took. All estimates of course

So here's the real story:

The UK Uncut action was peaceful in every sense of the word, including the occupations on Oxford St. The occupation of F&M was also completely peaceful, with no stock being damaged at all. Outside what appeared to be the Black Bloc were attacking property, and good on them for doing so - brilliant organization on their part. Later on the occupation of Trafalgar Square (i believe it was there anyway) was also completely peaceful in every sense of the word, the police were just looking for a fight and so when somebody stuck a sticker on the Olympic Clock they screamed criminal damage and went in all guns blazing.

Where you actually there? I mean really?

I was at F+M at the time **** went down, and it was far from peaceful. I've got pictures of the Police being attacked that I'm happy to chuck up, The rioters (I don't want to call them protestors) flanked the Police. I and Mum and Dad, had broken off from the rest of the NUT and had fallen behind, and got caught up in this, we had to double back and rush down side streets to evade what I can only describe as a mob. The shoppers were running and were obviously local (some really nice shops that end) and they were telling us and any other protestors to just head down towards a square at the bottom and we can cut back across.

The Police turned up, and were rightly so heavy handed in this case.

Were you inside or outside. Inside was UK Uncut. Outside was the Black Bloc.

BTW, we weren't the only protestors running away from the mob, and many members of the public (by and large you could shop / move about freely just off from the main protest) were rushing away.

You can't use the word "peaceful" and "peace" or "non violence" when describing that.

No, you missed what I was saying.

I was there when it kicked off, as in not very far away and could see what happened.

Nobody was peaceful in the way the entered or took up a stance on that building. Nobody. As for outside, shocking scenes of a mob attacking the Police using cowardly hit and run tactics.
