***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

Me and my housemate are getting pillaged and raped on MP, because it's matching us to people much higher levels and with better units. Just gotta keep losing because if you lose a lot it will still give you the province eventually, and a close loss still gives XP. Just gotta keep at it and eventually you will get some decent units. Thats the theory anyway..

Anyone else annoyed at the diplomacy AI? Seems to suffer from similar shortcomings as previous TW titles in that the enemy stubbornly won't help themselves.

I have major problems getting anyone to trade with me, no matter what I import or export compared to them, and when I finally do they often break the agreement or die out.

The names are easy

The first part of a unit's name (ie. Katana, Yari, Bow, Naginata) indicate the unit's weapon. Katana (a sword) are good vs infantry. Yari (spear) good vs cavalry. Bow good vs infantry. Naginatas (spear with a blade on the end) are sort of good vs inf and cav but not as specialist.

The second part of a unit's name indicate class. Samurai are the elite, very well trained/armoured. Ashigaru are the more mass trained professional army.

Actually I find this TW to be the easiest to get the hang of so far.

Note cav are good for charging against katana and bow infantry.

And if you still can't remember the graphics tell you. Man with sword going to be a sword unit! :D

Man I had a weird dream where I went to a shop to purchase various weapons include a naginata. I then bartered the guy to give me a full armour set at a discount... and eventually moved on to buying 4 ships. What the hell :D

Time to get some sun outside my friend!

I'm having exactly the same thing! Half the people won't trade with me because I have 'nothing that they require' even though I'm exporting almost everything, including several items that they import. Mori actually asked me If I wanted to trade (although I had to pay 2,000) then broke the agreement 2 turns later and then tried to charge me another 3,000 for a new agreement!.

The only people I did manage to get a trade agreement from broke it when their ports ran out of space.... Oh well!

heh dom me too, the above is actually my 1st 'decent' campaign, it was about my 4th restart never getting much above 5 myself.

Well I thought i take a little break before restarting the campain and played homefront.

I will restart the campain and try and rush people :) and make more allies maybe little bit earlier in the game.

Just found it:

Total War: SHOGUN 2

  • Multiplayer - Fixed a bug whereby winning a match made battle via the opponent conceding defeat did not register a win statistic or count towards the match made battle victory achievement.
  • Multiplayer - Fixed a bug that would see The Dishonourable Coward trait from being incorrectly awarded to players. The trait has also been reset for the entire player base.
  • Multiplayer - Fixed a bug that would see avatar costs incorrectly deducted from funds for a naval battle.
  • Multiplayer - Fixed instances where players were unable to fully upgrade their General’s Avatar skills.

For some reason diplomacy has been easy for me. Everyone likes me apart from the Christian clan and after a few turns I can trade with a clan after being at war with them.

What clan are you? The more I play, the more diplomacy seems to be just as pointless as in other TW games :( I think they've made trade alliances hard to make because they can net you a ton of money - they just haven't implemented a logical reason why they should be hard so it just looks like the AI is thick.

Also, even though I have 8 province with a trading port in most - one enemy ship blockaded one of my ports and entirely cut off my whole 8k per turn revenue! I despite doing perfectly fine, this one ship bankrupted me in 2 turns - I had no money to make a fleet to kill it and my only 2 Bow Kobayas where about 6/7 turns away from reaching it. Very annoying that the AI though all my wealth was generated from one port for some reason :(

Still, loving this game, shame some of the niggles stop it from being 10/10, hopefully some nice patches will sort things out.

Just out of interest, what version should my Steam copy of this be saying? In the top right of the menu screen it says ver 1.0.0 build 3272. I thought there had been an early patch that borked everything and was then fixed?

I never rely on trade, depending on the provinces you have it's generally best not to upgrade them all quickly or you end up having a negative cash flow when you exclude trade. I tend to keep most provinces in the stone age and upgrade perhaps 1 in 4 fully to help guard the others, otherwise I find myself running low on food/cash quickly.

Mine says the same, and I still have the random dishonorable coward trait.

I was wondering why none of my matches were showing up in the lists, I have apparently only played 2 lol - glad they fixed that.

Does anyone have any tips on the MP??? I keep getting pwnd - seemes like everyone in the world has tons of Vet units and can afford to field them all - I have one or two vet Ashigaru and they soak all my funding even thought they're only level 1! Just can't get my head around this system...
