HD 6990 OR GTX590?

If it was me I would go for the 590 purely on what I've seen in regards to the coolers of the two.

590 is better quieter cooler.
6990 is louder, and less efficient.

Purely from reviews and people who have both.
 
If you have a motherboard that can support SLI or crossfire, I would recommend neither. Get two 6950s and see them outperform both the 6990 and the gtx590.

If I had to choose, I'd go 6990. The reviews I've seen have shown the 6990 as being marginally faster, as well as the niggling thought that if I overclocked the 590 it might explode at some point and singe my eyebrows off. Not forgetting the fact that the 6990 is still a good 50 quid cheaper (on OCuk anyways).

Hazard - i hope your right sweetie, i wanna get me a second 570 and not have to bay it and get a 590.
 
all interesting results, and read some more and i seem to be reading a lot about the price and the fact that if you overclock the gtx590 you might risk it being blown up due to hardware. so most people are saying that the hd6990 is a better card both for value and performance. (thats just what i understand from what i read)

oh and isnt the hd6990 cooler from the thermal images above.

+1 my HD 6990 is fine, can't notice the fan during games. It gets loud during benchmarks with no sound on fully stressed and Furmark but thats expected when your card isn't power restricted to hide its watts usage or stop it going up in smoke lol
