X300 vgpu mod

It's just good practice I suppose, see if you can get hold of a 7600GT.
I used to use a pencil on mine to rise the vcore up. A multimeter would probably be useful too so you can measure how many ohms you are at - so you can then reduce the chance of you frying the card. :p

Multimeters are for Pu$$ies/serious people and i need a psu before i get a 7600gt ;)

Geez that sucks your not allowed a job, i would encourage my children to get a job (if i was a parent XD) and what i would do mate is grab something like 2900XT radeon when you can afford, powerful pci gpu and nice and cheap second hand, i have one myself i plan to use in an older build of mine, nice card, or the 9400GT is a good more modern budget gpu, pencil mod isnt worth it

wait what? 80% overclock?! thats like getting my cpu to almost 6ghz :s
Im pretty sure ur cards capacitors would go POP if you put in anywhere near enough volts to get that XD

Damn why did I think it would be good to offer some kind of useful advice? :o

You can't compare overclocking a what, 6 - 7 year old graphics chip to a modern CPU though. :p
Stock clock for the X300 GPU is 325Mhz so by my rough (and possibly wrong) maths an 80% overclock would be 585Mhz which I doubt is possible!

XD its still a little insane though you gotta admit, far beyond the realms of my imagination, capacitors would surely pop taking that much voltage to make that overclock even viable?

i can quite believe that on a gpu of that generation. I already mentioned i managed a 60% overclock on an x200 onboard gpu, and that was on stock cooling and voltage-limited by the bios (didnt bother hard modding it). the x200s and 300's were quite conservative with their clocks. tis nothing like gpu's of today.

Slap your mum in the face, tell her, you getting a job and coming to Ocuk to spec a rig, and shes gonna shut the hell up while you do it.

But it didnt!!!

I know they are seriously oc'able cards

if only...

She wont let me because of how dangerous it is around here...

Any way i just found out that i broke the overclock record on this board by a mile but i didnt qualify coz i pencil modded it the current record is 520mhz with a aftermarket cooler on it but no mods!

No. they're for people who know what they are doing and don't want to break their hardware.

But hey, lets all take advice from someone who broke thier psu for the sake of modding an x300.

i already said it wernt that that broke it i was trying a old atlon xp cpu in my old board with agp (not this card) and the cpu blew it

You know I keep checking this thread for the inevitable "Oh darn I've bricked my card" post...

Also what would your parents do if/when you do end up breaking this PC?

My birthday

Hi guys just wanted to say still not bricked and its my birthday so i thought id ask if any1 had a good psu or gpu i cud have cuz i only got £20 and im currently usin a 300w psu

my mam wont let me have a job untill am like 15/16

do what i did, and offer to do chores, help with the cooking, offer to get 'that small thing your mum's forgotten to get from the shops' and generally be helpful to the parents for money. i get £5 an hour for it.

if you can do this, you'll have enough money for a decent card in no time, and a very happy mum. when im not at university i usually do 1-3 hours a day, depending on how much there is to do.

believe me, there is no shortage of chores to do around the house if there is a woman living in it. it'll stop you from trying to brick your card too, which can only be a good thing

Wait what, you're not too bothered about bricking it, but can't afford another  And howcome you're not just using your 360 like people suggested and not replying to 'em?

Eitherway yeah, go on MM and try and find a 7900GS or 8800GS for ~£20 :p
