Classic question, fence has blown down who owns it?

It all depends if having a fence is such a big deal for you. If you want the fence to stay up, then repair it or put up a new one. If you dont care either way, take it down.
You are by no means required to keep the fence there.

If your neighbour has a problem with that, well then they can put up a fence themselves.

drill some new holes in the posts and attach to the wall with new anchor points, £10 all in max and 40 minutes of time.

No wonder OP can't find the deeds, this man has them!

There's always the option of a troll fence.

Paint pornographic images and abuse all over one side and erect the fence with that side facing their garden. Neighbour cannot touch your fence let alone paint over your artwork!

This is why I live on a boat . . .

The posts were rotten, the panels were rotten and have been blown to pieces, really the full lot needs replacing.
I appreciate the fence has probably been put their by some one from my house at some time, but if it is their brick wall do I need to replace it or just take the full lot down before it blows down and just leave the brick wall.

I believe I have gleamed the answer from the replies in this thread and it is simply it doesn't state in my deeds who owns it, I'll ask them what it says in their deeds and see it for myself, if it says me fine I'll sort it, if not I'll suggest we go halves and replace the lot with a decent quality one not a cheap panel fence.

I doubt it'll say anything about you in their deeds. It'll probably just say if they're responsible for maintaining the brick wall.

But do you really want your neighbours to be able to see straight into your garden? If you really don't care this is great, cause if they care they'll be forced to erect a fence at their own cost.

If you suggest halves and they say no way pal, then I'd be tempted to remove the entire fence and do nothing. I'd personally hate you for this though and you say you don't want to start a fight, so...

He should walk round in pants, force their hand!

If he saying that the fence belongs to you then I don't think you need to replace it.
If he moans about removing the fence, tell him he said it belonged to yourself, and if he wants a fence then he can pay for the costs.

Don't go halves, it'll cause more trouble in future.

First establish who owns the brick wall.
Then establish if it is anyone's responsibility to maintain the boundary to a certain height.
If it is not your responsibility, then just take it down.

If they want a high fence, and the deeds don't prevent it, then let them put one up on their property.

Likewise, the same for you if that's what you want.

Tbh I'd be very careful about something like this. I see a basketball net thing stuck on the wall of their house. Something like a ball hitting the wall of your house could become very annoying and you may find they've been biting their tongue about it :p I suggest as others do, that as the original fixings are on your side, its down to you. Dont suggest anything that may upset the peace :p

Looks like your fence to me. Check deeds and all that, but otherwise it's yours and you should be a good neighbour, do the right thing, and fix it.

It's only a garage, I wouldn't have put it onto a neighbours house.
