***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

I think with B-Spec early career you can't give the poor bobs are car that's too fast. That's what I experienced anyway. Like the FF challenge. Gave him my souped up Civic Type-R around London and he must have bashed every armco on the track. Gave him a milder tuned Mini Cooper and he walked the race.
Just an hour or two of patience will pay dividends mate. And you can earn free cash with us remote race peeps once you have a few drivers set to online ;)

If they're the two I think they are, I believe they're identical.
Haven't driven either yet but can slap some racing tires on and put them in my shared for you.
edit: *facepalm* of course they're not identical, one's a 350z and one's a GTR. There's a "Fairlady" LM which is the same as the 350, but have both and will put them in shared all the same.

editagain: actually the "Fairlady" has 65 more hp, it's got 0 miles on it so that might be why.
againagain: After a rebuild and oil change on both the Fairlady has 619 to the 350Z's 524

Hey guys I have some questions if you don't mind. I will completely admit I have only recently jumped on the GT5 bandwagon and I am qute new to it and have not read the entire thread.

1: How do I obtain a pick up truck to do the pick up truck challenge? I cannot see one for sale anywhere apart from the little tiny dog slow thing which even when you chuck 50k at it it still can't compete on the big fast nascar track.

2: Why during races sometimes do I see myself or other cars chucking out smoke permanently from the rear tyres? Like literally for entire laps. Is this a fault in the game or is it meant to show tyres wearing and being so hot that they smokefor entire laps? Is this fixed in any updates? My PS3 is not on the net and hasn't been for months.

3: Why do the AI cars in a race brake when you touch them or rub them slightly? Or at the very least they will completely lift off almost like a panic mode not knowing what to do. So say I come to even a straight if I am behind them and touch there bumper gently they will practically stop until I then brake and go around them losing all momentum. Is this fixed in any updates?

4: Is it worth getting golds on all the rock hard special events? I'm wondering how obsessed to get with the game because it becomes not enjoyable after a while and I am never going to do any B spec challenges anyway where you don't do any driving.

Thanks all

1 - Either wait till one appears in the used dealership or there should still be some in the online dealership (you will need to get your PS3 online again for this though).

2 - Is it raining? That's the only time you should be seeing 'smoke' (water vapour) from cars at all times.

3 - Won't be fixed in a patch simply because it's a new 'feature' the coding monkeys at Polyphony added with the last patch because the AI used to just sit there and let you ram them. Now instead they swerve all over the place and ruin your laps with their unpredictability :|

4 - No, probably not, unless you have a wheel to reduce the annoyance. You complete the events by getting bronzes so you'd really only need to go for golds if you want the platinum trophy or some slightly better prize cars, none of which are really worth that amount of annoyance imo, certainly not when using a standard PS3 pad.

edit: Also, the gifting limit isn't 1 million I found out last night. Tried gifting that 350z that Crofty was after last night (which is worth 970k) and the game told me I couldn't give that car to a friend even though it's worth less than the 1 million PD said was the limit.

I think the trading limit is based on the value of a pristine specimen rather than what you pay for one with a few miles on it in UCD.

Hmm, that would make some sense I guess.... except you can't GET a pristine version because it's a standard car, so once again PD have screwed up.

I think the trade limit is 950k not 1 million, I tried gifting a brand new Enzo which is a million and it won't work, JGTC cars costing 950k can be sent.

Cheers apparently you win a pickup if you complete IA licence so I will try that. As for AI being poor, I've read a lot of other complaints about it just now so must just be how the game is.
With regard to smoke, no this is not in the wet. Dry race and smoke will permanently come out the back of the car. I'm unsure as to whether it's trying to show you have a blown/damaged engine or tyre smoke on the rears spinning up due to wear. But once it comes round a lap, it stays till the end and is permanent. Very weird.

Well with some you can, if you're talking about the Fairlady/350Z LM car, I have one of them, I think the Fairlady, with 0 miles, as a prize car I guess. Even though it's standard. Quite a few standard cars can be won.

Anyone free this weekend?!

Probably!

This sounds odd.. are the smoking tyres showing red on the little temperature diagram thingy? Which tyres? Are they really smoking constantly even once you're up to speed on a straight?

Ah, yeah good point on the prize cars there. Speaking of which, I spent a few hundred k on a nice LM car in the UCD (possibly the online one actually thinking about it) and then randomly decided to do the suzuka endurance race, which damn near killed me. Guess what the prize car was. Yep, the very same LM car I'd just bought. Not pleased.

I really think the prize cars should ALL have been premiums though, especially for stuff like endurance races. Getting a crappy standard car really lowers that feeling of satisfaction upon completing something like an endurance race. "Oh... is that all I get for spending 4 and a half hours of my life on this? Gee thanks."

yea it sucks when you win like.. a Toyota GT-One :D

This is why you should go to mygranturismo.net
View the list of prize cars, list of RMable cars, approx cost and whether or not a car can be traded.

Ah balls, I've gone and bought a load of what I thought were 'rare' cars, according to MyGranTurismo, shortly before I clocked on by reading someone's suggestion that it's basically a tally of how many people have owned what, and people are unlikely to own these rubbish cars (except prize cars), therefore making them seem 'rare'. If that makes any sense. Oh well, more paint tickets and making up the numbers then at least...!

I preferred the standard GT-One you win as a prize car to the premium McLaren MP4-12C you win for completing the 24hours of Nurburgring :( THAT is a rubbish prize :p

1 - I was gifted an F150 with over 600bhp, made those truck races (and early supercar ones) much easier. The nascar track was a cinch in it!

3 - use it to your advantage :)
