Santander are charging me £110 for going over my overdraft.
Four £25 charges and two £5 arranged overdraft fee charges.
The £25 charges are for four direct debits they paid when I was over my overdraft.
Phoned them and all they said was they could waver one of the £25 charges.
I refused this and have to call their complaints team tomorrow.
Are they being unreasonable ?

You think they're being unreseasonable because they charged you for paying money, on your behalf, that you don't have?

Surely you can save a bit of cash and just let it sit there and not spend below that amount otherwise you're going to face the same situation again and again.

I feel for you, but unfortunately there isn't much you can do.

I've probably spent £100+ in the past few years on fees like this, because I am bad with money.

If I go over my overdraft costs me a fiver a day, which I only did once by mistake thinking I had been paid :o, but even if I go into my allowed overdraft they charge me a quid a day which I find strange and somewhat hard to justify. If you don't want me to have it why give me it? :p

I dont mind being charged.
Its the amount.
I transfered money into my account to cover the debits the day before they were due, but the money did not show in my account until two days after, even though it was supposed to be a faster payment.

I was under the impression that faster payment went instantly.

should have double checked to make sure you're money was transferred into your account if you knew that the next day you might have to pay up if it didn't.

You shouldn't assume that because it was faster that it would go in instantly.

I did not check it, true.
The reason I did not check is because it has always transfered instanly before.
After checking my account in more detail, they did not pay the direct debits.
They came out at a later date.
Guess the companys reapplied for the money.
So £110 in charges for being overdrawn for 1 day.

If its not an automatic payment consider writing/talking to them directly and paying them off in parts? I.e. a certain amount a month.. quite unlikely that you'll get away without paying a penny but if you can spread it out it will be better than paying it all in one go?

I'll try that thanks.
I am going to want to know why the money did not show in my account until later.
I will see what they say.
Fingers crossed.

are you saying that you didnt know that your council tax wasnt coming out your bank on the day they sayed (why didnt you have the money in your account to cover it )

why didnt you call them and change the date very easy done

(i will keep quite know iam just bk from a ban)

Yes I did know that four direct debits were coming out, thats why I transfered more than enough money to cover them.
Because the money did not show in my account until the following day, when it should have shown instantly they bounced my direct debits, hence the four £25 charges.
