Are you sure you didn't watch the first couple, fall asleep and just thought you'd seen the other 6?

It looks like Clannad After Story is finally in stock at TRSI (yes it's not reached the release date yet, but the movie has been in for weeks), so hopefully that will ship tonight/Monday :)

I've had the US release of the movie for a while ... the series is so much better ... but the good edition of After Story comes out on the 20th :D

Oh you should have seen the Internet nerd rage when the endless 8 was being aired. It was quite something.

It was really funny ... next weeks episode must be different ... no it isn't *rage* ... (and repeat) .... :)

Haha I can imagine! Not totally sure it had to be 8 episodes long but I'm not going to cry about it. :p

Werewolf, If it wasn't for xbmc telling me which ones I had seen then that probably would have happened! Thanks for mentioning that, reminds me I need to still see the movie for Clannad.

I just plunged in and watched all of High School of the Dead. Completely OTT on the nudity etc but an easy to watch anime over all. Too bad there isn't much of a real ending to it all.

The most annoying part is the amount the main artist who did the soundtrack ripped off western artists. Hollow Men by Kurosaki Maon is possibly the biggest rip I've heard in a while!

I was going to point out that the song at the end of the first episode bears more than a little resemblance to the theme of 28 Days Later. But Hollow Men seems to be a far more blatant rip off of New Born by Muse. I didn't even notice at the time, but DAMN. That right there is pretty much exactly the same song sung in Japanese. :p

Got round to watching the Blu Ray for TGWLTT today (I was determined to wait til i had time to give it my full attention, instead of having it on while doing something else :p).

The visuals looked really nice, although not as impressive as stuff like the Haruhi Movie, Macross Frontier, or 5cm/s in hd. I still think it's a great film thats well written with believable characters.

I really like how the first half of the film focuses on Makoto drunk with power as she time leaps, and then come the series of very real and believable sucker punches, showing that every action, no matter how trivial can have unforseen consequences. It's very nicely laid out imo. I've seen allot of tv/films that use time travel as a plot device, and this ranks as one of the best executed examples.

Short Synopsis: Our lead characters are a bunch of mutants who fight crime.
That was actually… pretty amazing here. Seriously, this episode hit a ton of right buttons, and sets the X-Men already one step higher above Wolverine. The graphics were utterly gorgeous, the atmosphere is just awesome, and already this show has put in a lot of characterization for its five main characters: Xavier, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine and Beast.

Anyway, I’d put it at about Wolverine’s level, but without an OP entitled "Feel My Claws," so in overall entertainment value, it’s a step down from what was already little more than a joke to begin with. A surprise, I know. The new character designs succeed only in making the show even harder to take seriously, but it is so chock full of melodrama that who even knows anymore. Thank goodness there’s only one of these Madhouse disasters left.

:(

Amazing how the reviews are so different!

It is one of my favourite films; whilst the time travel is a fundamental part of the story the method is not made into a big deal allowing the film to concentrate on the consequences of it. The film isn't without it's flaws but I find it very easy to get pulled into the story and feel for the characters.

Unlike what I have been watching so far this weekend ...

Speed Grapher ... Ok had seen this around and wondered what it was like. Then Funi released their cheap S.A.V.E. edition so I picked it up. Ok it's a reasonable enough action series with characters with "special powers" but at 24 episodes it's way to long for the amount of plot here and drags at times. Plot progression just doesn't seem to happen with things seeming to go down the same routes repeatedly. Also the characters are either ignorable or forgettable. Overall it's not a series I would recommend.

Evangelion 2.22 ... Ok, may be a bit controversial here but I just finished watching this on Funi's BD release and I can't say I really thought that much of it. Admittedly I am not particularly a massive fan of the original series and admittedly this new film does look and sound very good. But the plot is well .... it's very Evangelion ... With the original series I thought that it started off ok and then got further and further up itself as the series went on ... this film, for the most part, would fall under "up itself" and gets worse as the film progresses. None of the characters in the film are particularly likeable, particularly the male lead, and whilst the new(?) female pilot had potential she wasn't in it enough to really make an impression.

If you do watch it then there is a tiny bit extra and a trailer for the next film at the end of the credits.

Any other opinions on the evangelion remake? I feel like watching though it again but not sure whether to just watch through the original or watch the remake instead.

Well the remake is due to be 4 films with only 2 being released so far so if you are watching the remake then you'll only have half the films to watch at the moment.

Tbh the characters aren't really designed to be likeable, not like your typical slice of anime where the characters are fine and dandy with not a care in the world. It's all about personal demons and traumas.

Shinji is socially introverted and isolated, with serious self esteem issues. Asuka has some very deep mommy issues and insecurities, which she hides with a front of hostility. Rei is just a blank slate that acts as a slave for the most part, with no personality.

"It's strange that 'Evangelion' has become such a hit" - all the characters are so sick! - Hideaki Anno

Not suggesting that Evangelion is awesome by any means :p. I think the plot does go all over the place at points and could be better. But i do think the characters are kind of refreshing tbh, they're flawed and very far from the perfect stereotypes that you see so often in anime.

I find it really hard to comment on the quality of the films so far (besides the animation which is awesome). It's like having book that you only have the first half of, without seeing the rest of it.

--------------------

Think i'll be working my way through Index 2 and Star Driver now that they've actually finished airing, should keep me busy for the new few days.

X-men on the first episode is REALLY good, they could be onto a winner if they keep this level up.

My only crit, too much loud music on and off throughout the episode

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just watched FREEZING, Special Episode 1 and it turned into softcore Hentai with nipples and nakid bodies. Yes it was still freezing, i guess it's some form of Fanservice :p

Demoniser, yeah I do agree, but as much as I dislike the series I did feel that you got to empathise a bit with the characters more, probably due to the length. I don't want to give spoilers for 2.22 as the UK release is still forthcoming but I just haven't got that at all from the first two films. The second films seemed to be more "events" with no real coherent plot at all ... for example I would have expected them to involve Mari more after her second appearance.

Anyway ... on top of the things in my previous post I have been watching other things this weekend which I have enjoyed ...

Infinite Stratos ... couldn't remember what episode I was up to so decided to watch all of it through. I found this to be a very enjoyable little series. Yes it's your basic harem with mecha but the characters are fun and the fight scenes, especially in the last couple of episodes, are really good. I would admit that Houki and Chifuyu are character design types I tend to prefer :p

Fractle ... watched the last four episodes of this this evening. I thought that this series was very interesting and had a good story. The characters were nice the animation was reasonable. At times it felt laid back but these were intertwined with a reasonable amount of action and some comedy. You really got a good feeling of a solidly defined "world" underlying the story. In some ways it reminded me quite a bit of Last Exile.

I would recommend both these shows.

@ Eva 2.22 (and 1.11) they're kind of like a skipping record so far. They've been moving from one event to the next, without the 'padding' that there was in the series to flesh out the chracters. not surprised though, as they have to cram it into a film (although 2.22 is pretty long, 2 hours iirc?).

Very interested with where the third film will go though, as You Can Not Advance really is the fork in the road story wise.

While Fractale had it's flaws (info dump at the end there), i liked it overall. All of the main leads were pretty likeable, Clain, Nessa, Phryne and Enri, with some nice bits of humour. It's another one of those shows that could have done with another cour though.

It seems all the more common recently with shows that could be great being reduced to good or very good because they only have 13 or so episodes to get things done.

Just having a quick browse through this thread, since I've been off work ill I bought an Ipad 2 and for some reason started reading some comics which I'm quite enjoying although my choices of what to read is pretty random at the moment as I've no idea what's good or not..

Anyway, this has lead me to anime after reading a Witchblade graphic novel. I've just bought a few Blu Rays : Summer Wars, Witchblade collection, Devil May Cry Series, Evangelion 1.11, Appleseed and Appleseed ex Machina. I've just watched Summer Wars which was good, Appleseed/Ex machina which were also really good and I've just started Witchblade which looks very promising.

So my question is what other good titles/series should I get ??? Ideally I'd like them on Blu-Ray instead of DVD. Many years ago I watched Akira and Ghost in the Shell and I remember them being good also.

and final question, is there any Anime on any TV channels ? (I've got Sky)

There seems to be a Pocky shortage here in the UK :( ,maybe because of the Tsunami ?
The 2 site I usually use Mount fuji and cybercandy both seeem to have a lot of types out of stock, any other sites you guys reccomend i look at?......Onegai :D
