There seems to be a Pocky shortage here in the UK :( ,maybe because of the Tsunami ?
The 2 site I usually use Mount fuji and cybercandy both seeem to have a lot of types out of stock, any other sites you guys reccomend i look at?......Onegai :D

Mount Fuji did have some shipment delays, I know as I order my green tea from there and that order was delayed so I had a note from them ... but that did ship to me today express delivery (it should have shipped on the 18/03 in the cheapest delivery) so they must have got a shipment of stuff in ... so I'd suggest that their site may show an improvement in stock levels as they update.

Other vendors ... hmmm ... you could try the Japan Centre in London or Tokyo Toys. The former I've used quite a bit, the latter I don't tend to use as my packages from them tended to go astray in the post so ymmv.

...

Watched a couple of new things this evening ....

Nichijou ... ok, I want to like this as it's tripped out Azumanga Diaoh by KyoAni ... but episodes 0 and 1 just sent me to sleep!

Stein;Gate ... episode 1 was one big "huh?" for me ... I suspect we'll understand more as the series goes on but for now I think I'll leave it ...

Hanasaku Iroha ... I kinda expected a bit more humour whilst this was more drama really ... but in a good way. I quite enjoyed the first episode. One thing I will mention is that I was very impressed with the quality of the background art once the main character had left the city.

Jase, If you liked Summer Wars then The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is by the same team ... trouble is the BD release is only currently with Summer Wars in a double pack in the UK. Akira and Ghost in the Shell are both nice on BD, (the latter has a version 2.0 now with updated CGI which works pretty well apart from the very start of the film which is available in a double pack with the second GitS film for ~£11). Eden of the East is good on BD (fairly short series with several films to be released). I can't comment on Sky as I don't have it.

Jase- Witchblade is OK, although I wasn't amazed. What sort of stuff are you after though, without knowing your preferences its hard to recommend?

I think that's the problem, I don't know what I like as I haven't watched much anime. I liked Appleseed, remember liking Akira many years ago... Witchblade seems ok but I've only seen two episodes... I'd say my preference is something with a bit of action but I'm willing to have a look at anything. I'd also say I'd much prefer English audio as opposed to subtitles...

appleseed XIII would be the obvious answer although that's a new series (as in japan only)

Now I like appleseed (and the sequal ex machina) so assuming similar tastes I'd suggest:
gundam 00
eureka seven
zoids
gurren lagann
rozen maidens (not action but still good)

I'll edit tomorrow when I'm awake with some more :)

What are peoples thoughts on that new Anime on Demand UK (legal) streaming service that's been announced?

Personally I think it's going to depend a lot on the amount of content they can provide and the quality of the streaming in order to be able to justify the costs, (~£10/season or ~£40/year IIRC). I already have a Crunchyroll subscription, although streaming isn't one of my preferred ways of watching things, and I will be interested to see how this develops.

It's a step in the right direction. I think it does compete with Crunchyroll, at £10 per season (3 months). Crunchy Roll works out at £4.28 ($6.95) per month, so this new ANN service works out cheaper. I dunno it depends on whats actually available. They need to ensure they have a great lineup of shows to simulcast, which isn't really something they can control all that well.

I think online streaming is the way things are going now though, not just for anime but tv/films in general.

well my view about 'anime on demand' is that at the moment, it's really not worth it, I can only find 1 or 2 items on there....it's mostly trailers which I can find on you tube.

Also crunchyroll has such as large lead over them that it's likely they'll struggle to get anything.

I think you'll find that they are still populating at the moment. I seem to remember reading that they plan to have ~6 simulcasts plus older series (but I can't remember the source for that). It is related to ANN (ANN logons work on the site) so I would imagine that they are aiming for the same sort of thing they have in the US.

it's great if that is the case as it's good to have some competition but it could get expensive if it ends up meaning simulcasts get split between crunchyroll and them.

Finished watching Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!! last night. How to sum it up, well large amounts of very mild fanservice (due to most of the characters being perverted) and a plot which doesn't really move very much. It was reasonably amusing but not good enough that I'll go out of my way for a rewatch any time soon.

I see details have come out of this summers release of Sora no Woto (Sounds of the Sky) from Nozomi ... looks like it's going to be a typical nice release from them with a great looking artbox and a 40pg book included.

The only downside is that it's on DVD not BD ... :(

Woo artbook

Yay nice boxart

booo no blu ray..

and it looks so nice in hd as well, such a shame all that great background art won't get the treatment it deserves.

- Working my way through Index II at the moment, and it's one difficult series to keep track of. So many characters, lot's of different factions and several different plot arcs that occur simultaneously. I think i need a chart to keep track of it all :p.

I'm enjoying it so far though, it is entertaining, although it's got what i like to call the 'CLAMP/Tsubasa Factor', as it seems to be way to complicated and congested with plot points for it's own good at times. I'm guessing that a second season of Railgun will be next then. I wouldn't be surprised if that appears this year at some point.

Well, got my second canvas through today. I was a bit worried as the packaging was a tad battered but it doesn't look like it's damaged the canvas itself or the wooden frame :)

BD again for scale, (although it is also sitting on a full sized digital piano as well to give you a sense of scale). It's big .... it's very big ... and looks very good (again the phone camera pictures don't really do it justice).

:D
