Xbox 360 Vs Playstation 3

nah serious. I had to swap the A, B, X, Y buttons on one of my pads with circle, square, triangle and X buttons from a PS pad for the games to work properly though.

Still think I will stick with the 360 until I find a better reason to move other than graphics...

OK ill give you some more reasons to consider the PS3 then....

Blue Ray player
More stable machine, meaning RROD is far more common than yellow light.
Online is FREE!
PS3 only titles like Metal Gear Solid 4.....etc
Far better controller IMO.

Its always a big debate when people ask this question and I do like the 360 but my view is simple, The Playstation has been around longer and maintains the edge. Both are great consoles tho :)

You could argue all of those as pro's for the 360 though. More stable? RROD hasn't been an issue for a very long time, Microsoft also have a 3 year warranty on the older models and 1 year warranty on the new slims, if there's a problem you send it back and get it fixed, to claim the PS3 YLOD is far less common is a bit silly unless there's numbers to back it up. The controller comes down to personal preference, and I think both are perfectly useable, I like triggers better than using R1 and L1 for shooting but I really don't care, I can use both neither annoy me at all.

PS3 only titles, personally I prefer the PS3 exclusives, but again that's just personal preference someone who prefers Halo and Gears would probably argue with you forever. The free online you could put as both a plus and a minus, when was the last time XBL was taken down? I've used it for four months now and it hasn't been down any time I've wanted to play, the PSN has been down a fair bit, and not just for maintenance either. You get what you pay for in that department.

erm have you even opened up a PS3? It's just a blu-ray player wired directly to the Cell processor. There is no motherboard!

Your first post was funny, this one? Not so much.

Is there any difference between the Blu Ray output of the PS3 and a stand alone one? I notice many Hifi and Home cinema mags would like you to think there is.

Picture quality wise, unless you are a videophile, with analyzing equipment, then no.

Sound wise, you should be aware of which PS3's make fan noise, and which ones don't.

The PS3 will always output a small or large amount of fan noise depending on which model / era its from, whereas a stand-alone will be virtually silent.

I bought a stand-alone BD player for my living room, because no.\ I'm fussy to any background noise & 2.\ the PS3 in that particular room is an original launch day PHAT 60gig, which makes more fan noise than my other Slim PS3's in my other rooms, for which I haven't bothered purchasing additional bluray players for.

I also had an old phat 40gig which was super silent, but occasionally the fan would kick in on a hot day and then it was noisier than all the others put together !

If you live somewhere where there's road noise coming in from the outside or near an airport, the fan noise probably won't bother you.

A nice bonus of the PS3 as a BD player is the Blutooth remote. No point and shoot, is a bonus to me. For others though who like the integrated IR remotes, its a hindrance.

What the doc is saying about fan noise is different from what I have experienced with my consoles.

I have had to 60gb PS3 since the day it was released in the UK, had no problems and it makes NO noise.....its very surprising how quiet it is, even when you think I play it every single day and have had it years!

The old 360 that my gf had was shocking! put a disk in the machine and it sounded like a light aircraft was taking off from the room!....I posted on here regarding this a couple of months ago, not long after it got the good old RROD.

It must be all about ventilation and where you keep the console, I have this which my PS3 sits on and the ventilation is perfect which could be why its lasted so long?

I have both and far prefer my 360, multi platform games look better on 360 95% of the time, run smoother on 360 and have better online support on 360, but I keep the PS3 because some of the exclusives are amazing (uncharted, LBP)

If you can't afford both then I would say get a 360, If you only have a PS3 that your parents bought you I understand why you would defend it but for those of us with jobs it doesn't really matter, we just buy both and play the best... a high spec PC :p
