Because it's deliberate. They could have modified bf2 and made money on micro transactions. Instead, they did this while hoping people would continue to buy bf2 after trying a cut down version while simultaneously riddling their current games and dlc with drm that will one day announce too many install, buy another copy of the game :p

It's free yes, but given the development time and work previously done on bf2 and bf heroes it should quite easy have been vastly superior to what there is now. Either it's deliberate or ea have taken to employing trained monkeys for its experiments :D

The gameplay is solid, with one major exception: because you your class is locked on your character, no one is able to swap classes during a match. If your entire team decided to play as sniper, then you’re all stuck on a sniper-only team until the other, more balanced team mercy-kills you. Its a horrific flaw that needs to be changed ASAP. And since you cannot choose which server to play on (it’s all based on automatic matchmaking), you cannot see what your team chose before the match.

The match-making in heroes generally divided up teams pretty evenly.

No big deal. Would be nice to switch classed based on certain situations though.
