Simply sublime... Edifier R1600T Plus mini review

Not a fan or rear ported speakers for desktop us (plus you haven't even isolated them from the desk :p), although actives are definitely the way to go for nearfield listening and are nearly always going to kick 'pc speakers' all over the place for music.

First at least find out if you can tell any difference between MP3 and lossless before generalising.

My earphones were >£150 and I'm listening to MP3s, after tests I can't tell the difference between -V 2 encoded files and FLAC so it's all down to the individual at the end of the day :)

Indeed!

The major point with these speakers is that they bring a high quality level of audio to the PC at a fraction of the cost of separates. And for that they excel!

I think the point was that you could struggle to tell the difference on lower budget speakers. Earphones over £150 are definately not on the budget side of things

I interprated the difference, that if only using MP3, it's only worth using craps speakers as the limit is the mp3, implying that a 100k system would sound the same as a £70 system if using mp3 as the source.

Whats the bass like on these? I like to feel it on dubstep, would it be better than Logitech X-240's?

Cheers :)

i actually personally find that it's at the lower volumes that better stuff shines, some cheaper stuff needs a bit more volume to sort itself out and things can get a bit muddy at night time listening volumes.

I personally think that my second hand setup would kick these into next week :D

Mission m32i and a marantz sr4200, cost me about £70-80 in total and is very very good for use in my computer room. Could probably get more out of the budget by getting a stereo amp instead of an AV amp, but that wouldve required an outlay for a soundcard too, so for a low budget was a very good compromise.

£70 for all that, ebay?

No, the X240's have a subwoofer. Cheap 2.1/5.1 PC speakers are about plenty of bass. Speakers such as the Edifier R1600T's are about better sound reproduction.

Would I be able to link these with a dedicated sub then? I produce dubstep as well as just listen to it, and it helps when you can hear how the bass would be reproduced through a quality sub :)

If my ageing memory is still functioning I think I sold RG-Tom that amp in the members market. I picked it up on the bay when my AV reciever went pop (literally!) I had it for a year and sold it for what I pad for it they joy o hifi that is a few years old is that you can by it and sell it for very little money without ever loosing much as it is already at rock bottom. That SR-4200 was a brilliant piece of kit I almost didn't want to sell it!

How do these compare to the M3200's? or the Prism speakers?
I'm considering getting these as I need new speakers. I went from 5.1 to 3.1 to 2.1 then 1.1 mono lol. Each speaker dying as time passes. They are really old mind you.

I was debating, quality vs style.
The other ones I mentioned has headphone ports volume wheel etc which are ideal. However, I'm considering sacrificing them all for pure sound quality.

Is the bass well balanced? Do you have to position them in a certain angle? etc etc

Sorry I'm rambling, First post :) but longtime customer and big time pc g33k :)

I myself have a good £2k worth of speakers and AMP and they are actually shown up in the odd instance by these... quality wise I would put them on par until you reach 3/4 volume after which the dedicated set up excels.

I've only just seen this thread but if the above is true then either these are some amazing speakers or your £2k speakers and amp are absolutely cr@p?

I'm guessing these are great little active speakers for a pc but don't for one minute think they'd worry a £500 stereo system never mind a £2000 one!!

Actually scrap what I said earlier, I couldn't wait so I've ordered these badboys from you.

I'll post up a review when I get them tommorow. :D

I trust your judgement of awesomeness

Second hand hifi is so bargaintastic that I just couldn't recommend buying new in this price range to anyone.

Kudos to the mission/marantz setup; you've just defined value for money, very nice for £70.

Got these today and yes the sound is amazing. Although there was crackling to start off, I thought I had a faulty unit! Took a while to warm up and its gone, now just pure sound crispness.

Very clear, the bass is there, although not earth shattering loud. I could only describe it as balanced. :)

Oh.. also.. for some reason when I recieved mine, I have a finger sized hole like someone poked them... It was also almost directly at the dome of the speaker too! so lucky it didnt go all the way.. but don't suppose anyone can shed light on how, what or who got enthusiastic about the packaging? lol.. I can understand box damage to the edges and stuff but this is just new... lol:confused::eek:
