is there any disadvantage of putting one of these 2.5" ssd's in to a desktop vs a 3.5" ssd?

Other than the fact you need a bracket to install the 2.5" SSD in to a desktop, no They have the exact same performance just a different form factor.

thanks very much - 120gb vertex ordered Apparently my CM storm scout case came with 2.5 to 3.5 adapter - now if only i can find the damn box lol.

Not sure about the first generation of Vertex SSD's (these one's) but the 2.5" Vertex 2E's come with an adaptor bracket so you guys might be ok
