Facebook - what do people check in to their houses for?

are you too elitest to use it? bookface... nearly as bad as the phrase M$ !

Its only "risky/dangerous" if you have random people on your friend list on facebook with 1000000 friends.

Well I'm better than you - I don't even use forums.

or the internet

or text

not sure why people check in at home, find it odd.
using it when out and about and planning on meeting people can be good tool though :)

To let friends know where they are?

I do it all the time when I'm going out somewhere and Often meet up with mates who know where a group of us are.

Though I'd agree, Home updates constantly are annoying.

Well no one I ever see doing it is doing it for that reason.

They're letting EVERYONE know where they are.

If I'm going somewhere with my mates, I will either actually go there with them, or I will ring them when I get there, or find them when I get there, or they'll find me.

I don't need to let 100+ people know I'm at the cinema so Gareth and Darren know I'm there.

OH HURRAH, YOU'RE AT WORK AGAIN

I'm so glad you broadcast it, after the last four days of you checking in at work at 8.55am, I was wondering where you'd be today! Turns out YOU'RE AT WORK AGAIN

What a lovely surprise

you can restrict who sees things you know.

But they don't, do they?

This thread isn't about the roughly 1% of people who use the check in feature for what it's actually for, this is about ****s who check in everywhere all the time because... because I don't know why!

I see people on my friends list check in at underground stations that aren't where they're getting on, or where they're going - they're just stops they're passing on the way to work. It's bizarre!

And it's not like it's rare, a worrying amount of people who I previously respected do this sort of stuff.

so block the crap that they post. simple.
also, just because you have no interest in it doesnt mean others on their friends list dont.
they might be going out and meeting each other without you

I must admit i have never got why people do use the "Check In" part on facebook, why do
i care that someone has just arrived at there work, or at there mothers.

You're completely right, and announcing to 200 people every day that you have arrived home at exactly the same time you arrive home every single night is actually a pretty rad thing to do, and I only think it's stupid because I'm jealous :p

Checking in at a gig, or a big night out, or anywhere interesting, is fine. Checking in at your house, or work, or your mum's house is just odd.

I quite like it, recently I was out and about having some drinkies and FB kindly lets me know another friend, who I havn't seen in ages, is in another bar not 500m away.

Hence a big meet up and hence why I like it. You end up meeting up with people who you ordinarily wouldn't have met up with.

This thread reminds me of that girl who posted on her facebook page party at mine and ended up having random people turn up and crash the party

Surely you can see the downside to that? :p
