Grrrr, stupid executive cars.

Yea, surely the more that goes wrong in warranty the better

Means you now have a car with a new gearbox?

Thats what im saying, its a pest being off the road a few times, but its lining our man Rilot up for a years problem free once hes out of warranty.

As Jez said, ride it out, dont go and stuff ya self into a Skoda, blow your brains out on money there, before this car has actually cost you any money, if you get my drift.

He had a fairly new gearbox to begin with though probably, so if it went wrong once the new one may also go wrong

This is why my dad rushed his new car purchase. We stumbled across a dealer offering 4 years full bmw warranty up to 125,000 miles.

Unless it's really getting annoying and impractical, I'd just live with the 7 whilst it's still under warranty.
That said, I can understand why you don't like it (deja vu re: A8)
Whilst the new Superb really does live up to its name, it's no 7 Series..

Its just SO important these days.

Yet you just know that in 5 years time we'll be having arguements with people who insist that yes, spending £5k on a 10 year old E65 really is a good idea

They just don't really do it for most people which is why Lexus UK sales are so poor.

It just seems like a Jap copy of a Mercedes rather than having anything in its own right.

I love my LS400 :-)

And was the LS400 not the car that convinced Mercedes and BMW that they needed to start building quality cars again?

Can pretty much have that argument now, they came out 9 years ago and are about that price

Especially when it's an N54 ;)

Considering 2 years is the norm, 4 is just unheard of and an absolute steal, given that something will fail before 2015.

You know what. I'm being a moron. Jez, DM and Fox are right. I just needed somone to point out what a **** I'm being.
Do you know what the real problem here is? It's a frikkin diesel and I hate the fact that I've sold my soul to the devil of derv.
If it was a petrol model I would forgive it it's faults as I would love the car. As it is, it may as well be a damn Mondeo and that's the underlying reason for my dissatisfaction. I guess my heart says, if you gonna drive a car with an engine that represents everything you hate about modern motoring, you may as well drive a car where you hate the rest of the car too.

I just did some calculations:

30k miles in a 730d - Fuel = £7,818 per year
30k miles in a 750i - Fuel = £10,036 per year

That's 2.2k to drive a petrol V8.

So, you know what I'm going to do?........... I'm gonna chop it in for a 750i Sport.

Rilot....what did i say in the first place :D You'll love a 750i. They are not even that uneconomical for what they are!

I rekon I can get 35mpg out of one on a long motorway run. My cacluations are based on the official combined figures.

I've just spotted one with the right spec too. 6 months older than mine. Time to get on the phone tomorrow.

See now i can understand that, you put up with less to get more in other areas, not break down.

Good on you!

Do it, 35mpg sounds right to me, you might even manage more if you drive like i do. S500 will manage that which is not known for being as frugal. :)

Be serious, they might hold their own in VIP Style magazine, but against a 7 series? lol.

That's true, but they don't cost anywhere near 7series money though for buying or running. And if your talking 7 series money, why buy anything but the S class?
