As it says on the tin, 20k no more i'l only have it 6 months, what would you get?

In your position?

A 2003 Mercedes Benz SL500.

It is probably the best convertible in the world*, and the plethora of pitfalls dont really apply to you.

* Ignore Ferrari et al.

I was thinking that what about a 6 series though?

Before anyone suggests it i dont want a 996 bottom of the barrel.

Depends what sort of use it's going to get, but for light use and to tick the box i'd love an E-type to run around in, then when you've finished driving it you can sit back and admire it.

*total outside the box idea i know.

Cant drive it every day, no air con, be honest they are ropey to drive. You know how much that hurts to say cos i love a Jag, and i dont want another XK8 because i got my eye on THE BEST XK you ever seen, hard top, more on that if i get it.

The usage, well when its sunny il drive it with the roof off.

I've no idea if they are any good or in budget but what about a convertible Jag XK?

£20k gets you the old model. Not a bad car, but it came out in 1996 and is totally ancient. You can get fundamentally the same thing for £5k.

If you have no idea if they are either any good or in budget I do wonder why you feel in a position to suggest one, mind. He is asking for a recommendation, not us to shout out random car names.

See this will be one of them mad ideas iv just had and by tomorrow i'l have bought something :D

Buy an SL, Seriously.

It does everything. It is supremely well made. It wafts perfectly with it's brilliant autobox and fanastic V8 engine. It looks like its worth much more than it costs, it has a timeless design, it's the definitive convertible GT car.

Was just a thought, and odd for him to not mention it considering he's had 2 (Coupe's) so obviously likes them and isn't bothered by the age and may prefer something like that if it's only for 6 months.

Go on then pick a winner, 100 miles from kent :)

Take it you wouldnt want another Maserati?

If so 4200 Spyder, engine would sound simply epic with no roof.

Me sons still got that one, never again, i wanna buy something, smoke it about on good days then flog it, not spend 3k on it :D

Seriously, i might as well of bought him a Ferrari for the money i spent on that poxy maserati, 7k so far.

I got my eye on a proper proper proper hard top, if i get it il keep it for good, i dont fancy another convertible one, i just flogged that green one too didnt i.

Silly running costs, most of them engine related i take it?

Its had 3k odd spent the day it arrived, but it was cheap so that was fine.

Then it had the clutch thing on the semi auto **** box go, then an ecu problem, couple more tyres.

Then wiper motor the list goes on, that car owes me nearly 18k now, absolute disaster, i might as well have got one out of Maserati showroom would have been cheaper.
