The "More money than sense" test

Still not convinced I need to upgrade my 3Ghz Q6600 yet, certainly not for games.
As far as I can tell unless you're into rendering or encoding there are plenty of better places to spend the upgrade cash to get most impact on your computing experience (peripherals, furniture, audio)

Isnt much point in moving from a i7 (LGA1366) to a i7 (LGA 1155). About 10-15% increase From buying a new Motherboard and CPU :(

Unless of course you can sell a i7 (LGA1366) and the motherboard for a good amount of money.

Not a chance will I be changing. Happily running @4.3GHz on air.

Having just built a budget gaming rig for my brother (Athlon II [email protected] and 5850) it easily maxes out any games we play @1920x1080 and was amazed at just how good it performs, just shows that you don't need mega bucks for decent gaming PC.

My next upgrade is certainly going to be an SSD, just waiting for slightly larger capacity drives to become a bit more affordable!...although the OCZ Agility 120GB is very tempting!

To shadow-boxer, got one when they first come out a 120GB split 50/50 > OS+progs / games and benchmarks, cracking SSD. ;)

By the way just love my 920 got it upto 4.515 just can't get it stable, might not have the right setting in the Bios apart from CPU volts, or its at its limit, just might drop back to 4.494 and try for stability.

ssd will be my next purchase. Considering either a 120gb ocz vertex 2 or agility. My current sammy F1 320gb os drive is the single weakest link in my system.

Wheres the boat gone?

tried Arma 2 last night on i7 but need a new psu hence switch gfx to nvidia 6800.

It works, its very flexible game on that side. I found dual core to i7 doubled the fps otherwise

The boat is still in the harbour and fares have dropped.:D You can pick up an i7 setup relatively cheap now secondhand.

I just got my very first Intel from years of having AMD, sandybridge i7 2600k. Very impressed :) (think i have more money than sense lol)

I swapped from a i7 860 setup to a i7 2600k setup (problem with cpu) and i have found quite a few improvements in performance but it wasnt a noticeable jump like the jump between the q6600 to i7 860.

+1 yup am going to give sandy bridge a try and ditch my i7 , just waiting on OcUk's new delivery company to get there bums in gear Dx Secure customer services is pants by the way :)
