Anyone else feel freaked out when going into an apple store?

What are Macs better at these days? It used to be Image Processing and Publishing but the PC software has pretty much caught up now. So what exactly can you do on a Mac that is better than a PC?

why do they have to do something better ?

i bought my old macbook because i liked the design of it (at the time there was nothing at all that would compete on that front)

anyway have a look at logic studios monopoly. thats the reason i still use OSX , but then i still use windows for certain engineering software . theres nothing in it between windows7 and OSX for me but windows was most definetly lagging behind until 7

Ahh that ole comeback..work on it with graphics and 3D for about 4 hours and youll see.

Or how its handles 3-5 GB files with half the ram and processing power about 5x faster that a better specced Pc machine. Want to open a Ai file to a ridiculous Res on a Pc...watch that Win7 taskbar go!...whilst you get on with it on an iMac..or music production..or Hd Movie files and editing then rendering them out in After effects etc.
Try getting the same colour space on a falt screen on a Pc that been calibrated. on the 27" iMac for a good price and as good.

Theirs isnt a studio I have seen use a Pc for these reasons.

All work based stuff..i have a Win7 machine at home! :p

as for all these ''people only buy macs to show off'' comments then explain to me why the many internet communities for running osx on pc's are so large and active ?

I process and edit RAW photos and do some video editing on my machine and don't have any slowdowns, high res images do NOT take any loading time. Either your PC spec is slow or something is wrong with it.

With today's GPU accelerated processing in Photo and video editing packages the difference is neck and neck and the only showdown is user preference.

What, the bastardisation of the English language?

Its not a bastardisation, its a marketing ploy designed to denote personal ownership of the brand not the product.

I own a ford fiesta == I own an object
I own ford fiesta == i own a brand

My ford fiesta is 'a ford fiesta' but 'ford fiesta' is a brand in its own right.

So the CEO of Apple could legitimately say 'I own Apple'
And by giving the customer the right to say 'I own <Brand>' transfers ownership of the brand to the customer

I own <Brand> == I buy into <Brand>

Not sure on the build quality argument to be honest. though this is my personal experience.

Had a Macbook Core Duo before and it was terrible. It went through 2 logic boards, new keyboard, new optical drive, charger cable coming apart, battery dieing in a few months and a new HD in the 2 painful years I had it. The build quality was so poor, it was constantly overheating. Even if I put it on a laptop cooling stand and put fan to 100% it was still boiling. Only stayed cool if I left it idle. Gave up and sold it on Gumtree in the end with remaining warranty.

In contrast I have a Dell XPS from 2005 which is working absolutely fine and still looks new, a XPS M1530 which again is fine and a Studio 1558 which is fine. May not be as pretty but at least they don't boil up.

I do like the iPad and love mines, it is a great piece of kit, but I personally for a laptop and PC currently prefer Windows. Though my g/f is going to buy a Macbook Air.

The one piece of Apple equipment I like is the iPad which I think was a great buy (it was an impulse buy at first)

I got a 13" MBP a few weeks ago and it is quite simply the best laptop I've ever owned.

Solid build quailty, great screen, proper sized keyboard and trackpad.

The trackpad is so good along with all the gestures that I barely use my mouse anymore. I can navigate through most of the OS and apps with just a few swipes.:)

Installed Windows 7 last night in BootCamp and it felt a bit unpolished and archaic.

rafster on the other hand... my OG blackbook core duo only just died the other week (after 4 years) and its still worth enough cash to actually bother fixing

Thats pretty much nothing to a decent PC machine.

I have a QuadCore, SSD OS Win64 and 8GB or ram.

You just showing youve never had to work on anythign of any worth wher eyou have mutiple large programmes running, opening and closing large PSD's, Ai's VUE/ Maya projects etc etc.
From a basic architecture Windows jsut isnt set up to hnadle large media workflows.

I get the exact same response everytime.." but i do this and that on my Pc"..thats great..and Im sure you have, but you dont know what its like till you hvae done all the same things on a Mac then some..

ANd yes..I hate the whole cult thing..I find the confernces cringe worthy etc.

That's just your preference and experience. There are PCs that can and do do it just like that. You just have to pay for them.

I never have, but I agree people with one or more Apple product are cult like. It is like they put people in a trance when they get anything Apple. Plus the pricing sucks, you can get a much better PC for what a Apple costs.

Oh no, I own three apple products. No hope for me.

theres that word 'better' again

it depends what the person buying it wants and people on here seem to ignore this ,if you want raw power then yea you can do it for cheaper . you dont get the nice design built into your monitor though.

Nice "dancing"...

woowoo HIGH 5 ...tards

That video makes me ill. Every company is going down this programming happy happy nonsense, its almost NLP based. Although the depressing thing is this seems to work.

I give it a couple more years before profits start to slide though.

Is that the reason 3DS Max is windows only? Do all those studios that use 3DS Max, stugle with media work flows, and their creativety being stifled from poor workflow performance? I do all that on my own PC, just replace Maya with 3DS Max, and I don't suffer in the way you're telling me I do. The stuff you're saying is simply untrue.

Nothing falls that fast..certainly not a couple of years.

Certianly theirs nothing slowing the iPhone. iPad with the overall expansion of the markets.

I would also like to add that I think actually the Driod fans are quickly over taking Apple fans.
