Dirt 3 : May 2011

I miss the track widths/complexities of the original Dirt, where the width of the track amounted to a normal, albeit very narrow, two sides of a road and no more, with a cliff face/wall on one side and a drop on the other - or the tracks that were barely wider than a car, lined with trees on either side, and any mistake usually resulted in a very costly head on collision. The tracks now just look so uninspired, and 3-4 car widths wide on the narrowest parts, that I'm struggling to see any challenge in the game at all. The tracks also seem to be getting shorter and shorter compared to regular 3-5 minute tracks in Dirt.

Look at the difference in track width/difficulty between the original and 3, as well as the length

I love the feel no margin for error.

the green line can be turned on or off for yourself...

Thats not the point though. The majority of people wont turn it off. They need it to guide them and they swear by it.

Just like in the past reading Codemasters Forum. They screamed for years wanting realism and what do they do when they get the game? turn on every driver aid or rather it's on by default and left.

Both the PS3/PC time trials lists in these games I've looked at 98% of people are using driver aids. I know these games aren't simulation but still, what's the point in driving games when the computer is doing it for you and not down to your own driving skill. Then they get all touchy when you question them about it.

If you play without the aids I think youll get a faster time as from what Ive seen they are simply there to prevent newer players from crashing constantly and quitting the game out of frustration.

Im not into driving games but even I will step forward and say that this looks fantastic :) The environment & terrain are awesome...perhaps Flight Sim developers can take note lol.

lol @ that video VF - he's actually wearing a helmet :D (is it you?)

Heh, no. I'm not that extreme. However it was after seeing that video I decided to fire up DiRT on the PS3 with the G25/Playseat. I think the last time I played it was before I got the wheel.

What a blast DiRT is with the G25. A good workout. :D

However I wouldn't want to do this in real life. Thank god for resets.

I hate how you get good runs then you take a corner just a bit too wide near the end of your run really fast and there's always some log buried in the grass somewhere or some concrete block(s) that totals your front or side. It's great fun though. Especially how narrow everything is. Especially when you hear those orange plastic netting's go, thrip, thrip, thrip, skoooooosh as you'll hit the least little thing.

To some degree some of the runs it reminds me of the Dukes of Hazzard slipping in below tree sections, from gravel to grass to gravel to tarmac.

The only things that are annoying at times is the bloom. Sometimes it's so bright the road distracts me and I can't see no detail for glow or dips and jumps that sends me sideways air born. It's so much bloom then all of a sudden it's crystal clear. It's great fun though.

Thats true but...

as from what Ive seen they are simply there to prevent newer players from crashing constantly and quitting the game out of frustration.

I've seen experienced players still relying on them heavily so no mistakes or bad judgements don't happen.

All I want is these graphics with real rally stages, I agree with the posts above about the width of the stages. Way way to wide! I was hoping dirt 3 was gonna try and go back to the roots of rally but I doubt that will never happen when the americans are involved! So Annoyed!

I dont think the consol kiddies would enjoy that and then dirt 4 sales would slump

Personally I'm looking forward to it as long as it doesnt have ken block in it

Dirt 2 was my favorite game from last year (i think it was out the year before but last year was when i played it).

Codemasters stuff drops quite quickly on steam too, i do want it, but i want it even more at 50 or 75% off :P
