What winds you up most when you're driving?

The only place I tend to get to enjoy my car is on twisty slip roads on my commute to and from work, it really does my head in when someone sits in the overtaking lane doing 60 thinking that if they cant go any quicker then neither can you, if its ok to undertake I sometimes do so to the absolute disgust of the lane hogger who always seem to get angry when you do so

So many oxygen theives

I'm almost the same but the twisty roads here are fly ridden so I always end up with dead bugs on my windscreen, bumpers, grille, headlamp lenses.

This annoys me more than bad drivers :p

  • Lane discipline – we’re all taught it, but so many times I’ve almost had someone go down the side of me in the car or on the bike, because the other driver decides their lane isn’t wide enough and wants to take half of mine too – seems to happen especially on roundabouts and is bleedin dangerous when I’m on the bike alongside them

  • People who tailgate – so many variations to this, but the main one is the * holes on the motorway, the ones who come racing up in lane 3, as I’m already in it passing traffic in lanes 1 and 2 – so there’s nowhere for me to go (unless a magical lane 2.5 appears!), then they sit there, inches (probably feet) off the rear bumper, gesturing and flashing lights... I’m already doing over the NSL so what more do they want?

  • Middle lane morons – this is a follow on from point 2 above, as sometimes they’re the cause for ‘not having anywhere to go’, but I hate these people! What’s the point of being on an almost empty motorway and sitting in the middle lane? I appreciate that sometimes it’s pointless moving back into lane 1 for 10 seconds or so, before moving back out, but when you could comfortably more back into lane 1, why do people feel the need to just sit in lane 2???

This. Completely this. I get so annoyed by people who expect me to move across to a full and slower moving lane on the motorway just because I don't want want to cruise at 90-95! Gesturing, flashing your lights and sitting 3 inches away from my tail is only going to make me inclined to test my brakes...

(Saw a small lettered, hand-painted note on the back of a trailer someone was pulling: "Airbag testing zone", made me smile. I have very good eyesight and was pulling past, not tailgating in this instance!)

Stay out of the fast lane then ;)

stop hogging the outside lane then moron.

If the traffic in the remaining 2 lanes are moving at 50 (which they often are), I refuse to speed up to 90 just to please the idiot behind me. I will move across when I get to a sensible gap, but being aggressive is not going to encourage me to do it any more quickly!

Another thing that annoys me is bird ****, have having to keep washing it off my car!

But yes, right lane hogs who are going too slow really drive me up the wall.
Last night had a white van and a BMW head of me coming off a roundabout, van was first and came off straight into the right hand lane and proceeded to do about 40 mph in a 50 (that turns into a 70 about 1/2mile down the road)
BMW dithered about a bit, but finally undertook the van at about 42 and then proceeded to carry on at about 42 in the left hand lane.

I was going red in the face at the slow BMW driver being ahead of me, and the even slower van blocking me from making progress.

Ended up doing the naughty thing of dropping down a gear, steaming up the inside of the van and then slipping though the small gap behind the BMW and ahead of the van and just flooring it leaving both of them far, far behind.

Well that wasn't necessary at all.

Nothing wrong with making progress in lane 3, it isn't the magical 90mph minimum lane!

yeah but it never is "making progress" is it

Its being sat in the outside lane at 72mph while everybody in the middle lane does 69 mph.

Just move over and let the person behind by if the outside lane is empty in front.

You don't wind people up enough to make people

Gesturing, flashing your lights and sitting 3 inches away from my tai

by doing 80 + mph in the outside lane when everybody else in the middle lane is doing less then 70.

If he's getting that sort of behavious, its because he's hogging the outside lane.

'Brake tests' are a really stupid thing. Do not do this unless you are prepared to have it done right back at you, and bear in mind the person doing is likely to have a better performing car than you (as you were holding them up in the first place).

What annoys me most is people who take driving too seriously, and get annoyed at other road users.

I drive with one hand, dont indicate, use the wrong lanes, cut people up. Just go with it and stop getting wound up and we'll all get along fine :p

I would interested to see your evidence backing up such an accurate generalisation.

Clearly everyone in this case is doing 72mph and must move over for the person flying up behind them dangerously when said person is completing an overtake.

Have some deserved :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Why the rolleyes? if there is anything worth being annoyed about on the road (which i maintain there isnt) it is tailgaters when you are in lane 3 of a motorway doing the speed limit past others doing below the speed limit in lanes 1+2.

Its pathetic, i will never move over even if my differential speed is 0.0001mph until i have completed the overtake which i wish to do. It is not up to them to hurry me up when i am already at the speed limit on cruise control which i do not wish to have to manipulate.

He needs to be renamed, MrTroll.

I agree, I will not move over until i have completed my overtaking manoeuvre, even if it means I'm sat at 70 with someone tailgating and a big gap in front of me. If there is not a sensible gap to the left, I will not pull over.

I've just remembered something which REALLY annoys me. Turning right out of a T-junction, and cars from the left turning right into the road you're exiting from, an even though they see that you're waiting there, they don't let you go, they just keep cutting in front making any gap from the right useless to you and making it VERY hard to get out of.

Every day coming home from work turning right out of here takes ****ing ages because of inconsiderate drivers - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&s...=Q1a15DHnENYm7V2_kAbYTA&cbp=12,157.28,,0,5.96

women

lets face it, anywhere in this thread where the word 'people' has been used, 'women' would be the much more suitable and fitting choice

This man speaketh the truth right there. :D

They even manage to annoy me when they are sat in the passenger seat.

I nearly always flash drivers out in situations like that as it means I don't have to make such an abrupt turn round the nose of the car waiting to pull out.
Mind you half the time they sit there half asleep, by which time I've given up flashing and turned in anyway whilst mouthing wakey wakey out of the window towards them.
