Input Signal Out of Range

Hi all,

I have a slight problem when I boot my PC up I sometime get Input Signal Out of Range on my monitor when it is loading the BIOS and Windows. I only get to see stuff on the screen when it has loaded the operating system.

Some times it will boot up fine and I can see the BIOS and the OS load but other times it doesn't.

I have an Asus P7P55D-E motherboard and an ATI HD 6870 graphics card.

Any ideas what this could be?

On what? In windows I'm using 1280*768 how do I find the refresh rate?

He said it was during bios and boot screen. This is happening before the pc has even loaded drivers for windows. Start by checking for bios updates for your motherboard

does it act differently if its a cold boot versus a warm boot ?

Check to see that the VGA/DVI/HMDI which ever connection you are using is connected firmly and securely.

If they are it could just be a duff cable, if u have any spare give them a try.

Some time it works from a cold boot sometime it doesn't same with rebooting.

what monitor is it - can it be configured to 'stick' onto an input, or is it set to autodetect signals?

My first thought also. I've seen this on some old monitors in the past that could only handle a few input modes.

I saw this recently. It was a known working crt monitor which was being connected. for the first time, to a Win 7 installation. Presumably the refresh or resolution was no good for the old monitor. I couldn't tinker with the pc as it wasn't mine to tinker with. Would booting in safe mode offer any insight?

It's an I-INC AG191D monitor. Worked fine on my old PC.

Is there an autodetect option in the monitor menu? Might be worth trying that when you see the out of range signal. If it works then, maybe you could enter the autodetect settings as default.

Why is it? Works on all my other PCs running Windows 7 just not this one.

Yeh it does I'll give it a try next time it does it.
