Hey guy's, so I've been interested in bikes my whole life and recently i was thinking about getting one, i'm 19 atm, hit 20 at the start of next year and i'm wondering, am i too big to ride?

I was thinking of getting the new KTM 125 Duke, i'm 6ft 2 and weight about 18-19 stone, is it still going to be practical for me? It would mainly be used for my daily commute to Uni etc.

Well, thanks for reading. :)

6ft.4 probably weighed 18 stone at my heaviest and ive been biking for 6 years, i know plenty of other big un`s too :)

ktm duke is lush but very expensive at £4300 otr for something that youl inevitably get bored off in 6-12 months, look at the honda varadero 125, honda xr125 etc for used bikes and for brand new give the kawasaki klx125 and d-tracker 125 a look, theyre much cheaper which is what you want for a commuter.

Most bikers are big ;). Im 6 foot 5 (maybe 6 foot 6) and im about 20 stone, but i ride a Honda CG 125 :P.

Pulls me perfectly so yeh... Your never too big :P.

Great, thanks guys for the thoughts it's good to know ^^ I guess i'll look into some cheaper options then :P, i was just drawn into the way the KTM looked

I'm now 20st but when I did my CBT I was about 17st. The instructor kept having a go at me fornot accellerating, but I was twisting that throttle as hard as I could!

A 125 will move you, but only just. I'd imagine it would get tedious very quickly.

I'm 6ft 10 and weighed about 24 stone when i did my CBT, hills were a slight problem but it was fine otherwise (although ive got long legs even for my size so i fell off on a cg125 because i couldnt turn the handle bars on a slow manuvouer!).

Im 22 stone now and my rmr125 pulls me easily! :D

Same, i failed my first CBT because of the fact my legs were too long to steer lmao. But my CG pulls me all the way up to 60 - 70mph depending on the temps outside.

I'm 6 3 and weigh more than you, I did my CBT on a CG 125 and then bought a Varadero 125, plenty tall enough and I only lacked some oomph on big hills, sat nicely at 65 on dual carriage ways and didn't look odd as it's a big bike, silky smooth and utterly reliable Honda V twin

I'm 6ft 2 and.. erm.. 22+ stone.. :( and i ride a YBR 125, it pulls me along just about but struggles at around 55mph :D doing test in next few months so that i can get something a little bigger though ;)

all these bikes you guys mention cost 1800+ even the ancient ones?

is there anything under 500 quid for a 6"5 17stone bloke ? i just want something cheap for if i nip into town and for a bit of fun.

never really put any thought into getting a bike but this summer weather makes me want one :S ive rode bikes before offroad so doubt i would have any problems with a CBT.

just to add my experiences to this, i'm 6ft 3inches tall and when I did my bike licence in 2009 I was ~350LBs (just over 25stone)

I did the 4 day intensive DAS course which meant day one was spent on a Yam YBR125.. I didn't really enjoy it but had no major issues.. it was a little strained going up hills and I had some balance issues on the carpark figure8s which I put down to me pretty much outweighing the bike

once through the cbt day we switched to 500s for the rest of the course, had a choice between a Kwak er5 and a Honda cb500, I went with the honda as it's slightly wider which i found helped with keeping my knees away from the handlebars.

Overall I had no problems, passed my test and now ride a GPZ900r (i'm in to classic bikes) i'm around 24stone at the moment and honestly don't have any issues riding anything that my knees don't interfere with my arms on :)

Only things you'll get for 500 are scooters (please dont... just dont) and very old bikes.
