6990+6970 tri-fire...

Personally, I always find hardocp's reviews are a bit...pointless for majority of the people, since 95% of the PC gamers game at 1920 res or below, and they always bench at 2560 res or triple monitors set-up.

Yes their information would probably be quite useful for those that DO game at those res, but I it doesn't really help people that game at 1920 or 1680 res.

Curious which setup would be noisier, either way it's a lot of heat to get rid of. I'd custom loop them with a nice tripple bridge if I had the money and less sense :p

my system with the 6990 + 6950 unlocked draws about 675w~ under load.

6990 set to default bios but clocked to 880/1250..... it can clock to 950mhz on stock voltage.

That's because there reviewing a video card setup that you would only really use in this sort of configuration, those of you who have 1080p single setups needn't worry about it but for the OP it's highly relevant.

Personally I wish more sites would do these types of reviews.

650W isn't bad. I have a 1250W PSU. Is it worth it mate? Honestly? Or would have gone 3 x 6970s?
as i said 6990 + 6950/70 runs really well if setup right but can be a pain to get setup,

getting another 6970 would be cheaper, but would give a lot more heat and maybe louder.

i've got the 6990 because it was a gift from amd..

I see. Are there guides to setting them up right?

Having reviewed the positioning of my two 6970s, I wouldn't be able to fit in 3x6970s and also my Asus Xonar. Therefore, I'd rather go 6990+6970

Plus, who did you have to kill to get that 6990? :)

I used to run 5970 + 5870 on my Asus rampage3 board. and that run exellent compared to 2 x 5870's. I had a gap for better air flow. i'm now running 2x 6950's unlocked. but i be getting a 6990 soon, but i can have the cap for better air flow on my board with both 16x.. i did try 3 x 6950's, but they where all together, and that was way to hot.
i'd go with the 6990 + 6950/70. be better if you could have the cap for better air flow :) Plus depends what games you play etc. plus helps with profiles.
You only live once :) plus there doing a deal on the HIS ATI Radeon HD 6990 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-033-HS
I didn't find setting up my old 5970 + 5870 a pain really?
good luck:)

Hey Gareth, IS your 6990 + 6970 running at 8x8x? I was wondering if the x8 lane would bottleneck the 6990 by much? Or can anyone else help me on this?

Cheers.

well it looks like set up correctly with the right BIOS you could have almost a 6950 worth of gain....which isnt shy!!!

worth it if you have the money chap :)........you get too many bonuses lol
