***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

So i finally got around to buying the game yesterday. I've played up to entering 'the
hive' so forgive any inaccurate assumptions.

Was really touched by Prophets opening scene with the whole 'dead man walking'
dilemma. Must say the Nano Suit 2.0 has this very creepy/sinister feel to it, an
almost sentient side that has the mission in mind but not necessarily your health.
That stuck with me throughout the game. The suits instructions added a lot to
this feeling but i can see why people found this hollow.

Even though im playing this on medium, it's a very pretty game & find it hard to
understand all this 'texture hate'. It's very unfair when you consider the scale of this game compared
to the jungle environment of C1 , it's 500% better done than say, F.E.A.R 2 which also took place in a city.

Very pleased with the overall story line/infection delivery. Very grotesque looking
at people shuffle around helplessly (lol'ed the BSE dialog)

Now the bad stuff. The control's are broken, especially the Nano suit wheel which
didnt respond nearly as accurately (some times not at-all) when compared with C1.
Like in the first game i set the side mouse button to initiate the wheel but nothing
would happen when i moved mouse to the right (to pick stealth). I found spinning the
mouse in a 360 motion made it respond but it all felt very clunky (dare i say consoly).
Also found when certain attacks/messages appeared they stopped the wheel from responding. About 4 hours into the game i moved to the individual button because it
became too much.

I use stealth/crouch 90% of the time but for all the Nano suits abilities, it
does struggle with 10 inch garden borders, tiny cracks in the gound etc. If the suit
can jump buildings i'm sure it can walk over the slightly uneven ground without
stopping the character dead in it's tracks. If you run/gun you'l probably never came across this issue.

While i want to avoid calling C2 a blatant console port i would say Crytek have accommodated both platforms as best they can. Looks like a massive hit on consoles which is great because Crytek clearly want Cryengine 3 to be the next 'Unreal Engine'

I'l give it 80% up to now

Wow. Just finished the game and I was quite blown away
Can't wait to try the game again in the harder difficulty. Ran so smoothly and that was part of the enjoyment. I was moved by the setting of new York. Can't wait to see what else crytek will try!

The game runs absolutly buttery smooth on my 5870, so who cares about the actually fps, its the feel of the game at the end of the day that matters. I even had to turn vsync on to stop the tearing. (For my monitor to tear, I must be exceeding 60fps?)

If it feels smooth, then it is smooth!

Not the case as my games tear at 30fps without vsync:confused:

hmm Iv just reached the bit with the floating park section and the clocked squid.

Damn thing is difficult. They seem to be able to take all the punishment I can dish out and I run out of ammo.

The kvolt gun on the floor, I tried using it, but it just seems to stun them, does it kill them eventually?

Again I just seem to run out of ammo.

i managed to kill those 3 things with the k-volt and the grendel. that was on the hardest difficulty bar super-awesome-post-apocalyptic-master-sergeants-of-the-sergeants-extreme difficulty :D

The game looks good but is really quite boring. Very linear, same old guns and the suit becomes redundant most of the time as the levels feel incredibly small and poky. Bit disappointing really. Nothing new here at all.

I liked the wheel in C1 but honestly the keybinds are better, especially with only two modes, just press Q to armor, and E to stealth.

It's almost as if they cut down the suit modes to match the number of index finger buttons on a console controller ....

after one of the patches, the graphics options changed from Gamer/advanced/hardcore to something different like high/very high/extreme

someone correct me, i can't remember exactly what they changed to. And i can't access Crysis atm

You can't go prone on the controller.

Really? lol, shows how weak the control interface is then.

I'm not hating on C2 because it's a console port, i'm hating it because of what they had to do/take out of the game to get it to work on consoles/weaker interfaces.

Me too. Because of console limitations...

No more massive open areas.
Physics are used a lot less, so no more 100% destructable buildings, and the trees are not even destructable anymore!
More linear level design.
Alien design has been dumbed down/made more cartoony.
2D textures used instead of real 3D objects (2D floating water bottles in the water for instance)
Water effects are not as good.
Lighting effects are less advanced.
Tacky low res textures in some areas.
Lower polygon counts on objects.

3+ years after the original and things have actually gone backwards.

Crytek are dealing with SEVERE memory limitations on the consoles so it's to be expected that textures would be low, draw distance restricted and a whole host of other limitations come into play. I still enjoyed the SP and finished it. One of the very very few games I ever finished. Never actually finished the orignal Crysis. I rate this one more enjoyable.

If you try playing Crysis 1 on the controller you'll lose a fair bit of control over what you can do with keyboard.
