Do you tidy your rubbish at KFC/McD's/BK?

If I'm inside I'll put my rubbish in the bin on the way out. I have known of people in the past though to question me when I do that and say I'm putting someone out of a job i.e. the cleaners.

I really hate it when I see people parked up and just throw rubbish out of their cars when the bin is literally 5 meters away.
If I eat in my car I will bin it or take it home.

I'm on two minds with this.

I don't mind putting my rubbish in the bin at all but what makes the staff actually clean the tables when someone is finished?

If the rubbish is left then the staff have to clear it away and then I assume clean the table with cloth and cleaning fluid.

However if you clear it away yourself all the staff see is an empty table and have no way of knowing that perhaps sauce etc has been spilt on the table and therefore do not clean it.

We do go to KFC a fair bit and most of the time the tables are "clean" but sometimes we have to move to a different as the one we chose has not been cleaned at all.

However, as a general rule, I bin it and usually give the table a wipe with the napkins if I made a whoopsie with the sauce etc.

I don't eat at those places but I take it from the outcry they don't have table service, so who removes and washes the plates?

McDonalds? Plates? God you'll be wanting a knife and fork for your burger next. :p

But yeah generally speaking I do clean up after myself in places like that, unless it's particularly crowded in which case usually I can't wait to get out.

I think it's a lesser part of a much wider problem. I work in the centre of a city. It's almost entirely pedestrianised and there are bins all over the place. You're always within sight of a bin, usually within a dozen yards of one. It's normal to completely ignore the bins and drop whatever you want to be rid of the instant you want to be rid of it. When I walk through the area, I can be pretty much certain of seeing someone dropping litter within a yard of a bin rather than using it. The problem is that it's normal to not give a damn about society, to not even understand the concept of giving a fleeting moment of time to consider the possibility of giving a damn, let alone a few seconds of your time to put litter in a nearby bin rather than dropping it on the floor. For much the same reason, it's normal around here to cough on people - it's not malicious, it's genuinely not giving a damn about other people or even understanding the idea of doing so.

Leaving paper and cardboard on a table in a takeaway with tables is a lesser version of that sort of thing.

usually they are aware someone has just left the table and start cleaning it right away

You're not that good on picking up signals are you? If the bins don't mean jack, then why does the establishment have them all around the place? Decoration? hmmm

maybe they are there to make the staffs life easier, rather then having to go back and forwards all the time.
But nobody knows because there are no signs, asking you to place your rubbish in the bin.
Because they have bins around exactly for that purpose. And because they have no servers/waitresses. The only restaurants where you don't have to clean up after yourself are those that:
a) Have paid waitresses to serve you food, and
b) don't have bins around you.

In regards to

a) so the staff at mcdonalds who pick up the rubbish of those who do not place their rubbish in the bin are unpaid volunteers?

b) the food court in lakeside has bins all around for the use of staff, so bins being there does not mean you are expected to cleanup after you.

No, but there is a waitress around if you need something and it is clear to everybody that part of their job is to clean up after you -and treat you well in general- as part of their service (hence the occasional service charge which should be a big hint).

Ditto the nandos example, waitress pick up your plate, but you are not expected to tip, nor is a service charge added.

Quite a difference I would think and virtually everybody seems to accept it as the norm. Nothing wrong with not accepting it but you can't argue that it doesn't make any sense!

I'm not arguing it does not make sense, just where there convention came from. There is nothing wrong with putting your rubbish in the bin, even when you dont have to.

<JOKE> Well apart from taking work away from potential workers. If nobody threw their rubbish away then Mcdonalds would have to hire more staff to clean up. By throwing your rubbish away you as good as taking british job away from british workers <Joke>

On the extremely rare occasions that I'm in one of the aforementioned food establishments, I do clear up my own rubbish.

It's nice to see that most of you agree with me. I have a question for those that don't. if it meant having to queue for an extra 5 minutes as the staff that could be serving you are clearing tables, would that then be Ok with you?

As for the 'KFC/McD's will poison your children, you brute!' you'll probably find more additives in a supermarket beefburger than you will in a McDonalds burger.

Never, I'm actually kind of OCD about stuff like this, I'd even clean my friends stuff if they leave it on the table. Yeah, I'm a bit of a freak! :(

It takes no time, you will be near a bin or walk pass one going out the door, granted if you are a woman with 3 kids its not as easy but any capable person can do it.

People just don't care. Its like when people chuck stuff out a car.

not to stereotype. But the fat people that i see in these fast food places always leave their rubbish because they are lazy. They are fat because they are lazy. They are fat because they go to fast food places because they are too lazy to make their own food. Quite simply the vast majority of lazy people won't put their rubbish in the bin. I always do even though im fat as **** :D (just to contradict my statement)
