DU is used by A10 against tanks in its bullets Since they been blowing up tanks I imagine it could have been used with other weapons

Its low level stuff though, its not going to wipe out populations. Might raise long term levels of cancer if tons of the stuff were near populated areas I guess like any radiation can

Its definitely the main violence that'll kill more. Nasty report on ch4 last night, gaddafi forces fired mortar rounds into a city and one landed in childrens playground taking out a kids back with them literally dying on camera.

Why kids are playing outside in a disputed city I dont know

how come skynews and bbc news havent picked up this mortar round landing in a playground? any links? dont see anything on the channel 4 news website either...

is this some proaganda video from youtube? like the videos of the chinooks someone claims was gaddafis forces firing on protestors lol when
A, gaddafi doesnt have chinooks
B, chinooks dont come equiped with guns

what depleated uranium weapons did saddam hussein have? he didnt even have the technology to make depleated uranium

you do realise depleated uranium is the by product of enriching natural uranium for use in nuclear power plants and nuclear bombs right? saddam hussein didnt have the technology for this

Before the first Iraq war Iraq did have a quite the sizeable nuclear program till sanctions and Israeli air strike put an end to it.

they had the machinery to enrich uranium (and so produce lots of depleted uranium) as well as actually buy depleted uranium from the west for years.

Heck the French even sold them a pair of nuclear reactors and enriched fuel.

And lots of us sold them tens of thousand of tons of chemical weapon precursors and even helped to build the plants to make them.

Saddam used to have lots of support from the west, and he got a lot of stuff because of it.

its not the warhead its the tip on the missiles/bombs that make them have so much penetration power.

Only bunker busting bombs have any DU in them and its used to increase the weight of the bomb, the article makes it sound like they're just dropping powdered DU over a wide area and trying to kill through DU exposure, that'd be an incredibly inefficient way of doing business.

In a HEAT round the penetration comes from a chemical explosion blasting a stream of super heated metal through the armour, there's no DU at all.

so you suggesting the shock and awe campaign and the raised raidiation levels in britain were just a coincidence?

coinciding with the Japanese nuclear meltdown, apparently so.

Though the latest youtube conspiracy is Obama sent in US Navy with classified Haarp high power radio frequency weapon to cause the earthquakes and extract money from Japanese government under threat.
If it wasnt for those youtube kids he would have got away with it too lol

you seem to be confused shock and awe happened many years before the japanese nuclear meltdown and so did the article i linked to which was published in 2006

shock and awe was the second iraq war nothing to do with libya this rise in radiation levels in britain during the shock and awe campaign happened years ago ;) and as far as im aware no nuclear events were happening anywhere in the world at the time of the second iraq war

DU's main source of harm isn't even radiation, and its not as radioactive as natural uranium but you wouldn't want to breath in the powdered remains as it is admittedly a toxic metal. If DU is so dangerous why does it not effect the tank crews who handle the ammunition made out of it while sitting inside armour thats also made out of it. So yes any radiation level rise in the UK would be coincidence, certainly nothing to do with DU being dropped 1000's of miles away.

soldiers have been complaining about depleated uranium making them ill for years

It's Just that I'd assume that my unit would've been affected too. Could just be that we're lucky, or may be the health risk wasn't that high.

have you been in actual combat near areas where they have been used? the uranium tip burns on impact and raidates the air or some BS

some german proffesor at a university tested the urine samples of a bunch of soldiers and it contained high levels of uranium which surely does more harm than good.

anyway we have gone quite far off topic.

all the nato puppet countries are now saying gaddafi must go even though the resolution doesnt call for it.

changed there tune since the worlds media has started to lose intrest

Yes, I belong to an Armoured Inf unit, and was in Iraq throughout the war fighting phase, as were a few other members of my family with other units, they also don't have any of this DU problem that you talk about.

We were briefed on DU before we deployed, it was helpfully described as "a yellowish powder", fighting in a war in a desert and we need to avoid yellow powder, great.

And yeah we are off topic, I don't think this conflict had anything to do with us and now feel like we're been used as the rebels air force. I don't know why the UN resolution didn't draw a line in the sand and tell both sides to keep behind their side, we're prolonging a war and I wouldn't be surprised if more people die because of this than if we'd just let Gaddafi get on with it.

yea i said thet ages ago they could have told gaddafi to not advance past brega and told the rebels not to advance past ajdabiya.

instead nato is wanting gaddafi to pull out of any contested cities or cities he took with force

so the rebels didnt take all these cities by force? they were gaddafis cities in the first place  as if hes going to surrender 70% of libya to the rebels just because nato says so.

lets face it the rebels are pulling all the natro strings its them asking for more air strikes all the time its a joke..

the rebel leader is obviously some religious fanatic as hes got the mark on his forehead you get from praying with your head on the floor 4+ times a day.

nothing good will come of the rebels controlling libya!

I don't understand it from a democratic point of view either, Tripoli doesn't look to support the rebels (maybe security forces are forcing order - maybe not) and since most of the population live there it would appear that on the whole the peoples choice is Gaddafi, yet we are now supporting a rebel government that wouldn't win at the ballot box.

Downing Street has said Britain would be sending the rebels 1,000 sets of body armour in "non-lethal" aid from surplus UK defence stocks, in addition to the 100 satellite telephones already supplied.

wow im stunned... anyone remember in iraw/afghanistan when our soldiers were handed the wrong equipment or not all of the gear they should have had so they had family members send stuff to them at their own cost...

soon the rebels will be better armed than our own soldiers and some of them are the same people who were fighting us in iraq acording to some cia people

still want to know where the rebels got the brand new ak47's from and all of the american made rockets they keep firing.. they look like they came off a factory line last week...
