Every worry too much?

This is why every time I'm tempted to splash out on a really nice motor I decide against it, I know I will be like this :( Hence me driving round in a crappy Xsara VTS, its fun to drive but I don't give a crap about it's condition or if I crash it! It was bad enough when I had good condition £3k cars, let alone if I had a £10-20k car.

been tempted so many times to send semi-abusive messages to poeple on gumtree ridiculing them for the amount they ask for a car, or questioning if they really want to sell a car with a poorly, unphotographed advert.

If a car is well looked after people believe its worth more.
Ive seen cars which are way overpriced in my opinion but if thats what people are getting for them why not try selling it at that price.

Some cars are worth paying the extra for, I've paid well over book value if it's particularly hard to find a decent example of such a car. If you are after a certain car, then sometimes market value and resale are not top priority.

For example I paid 3500 for a N/A Mk2 MR2 last year, I know you can get a reasonable one for £2k but I got an immaculate 60k example with a Toyota stamp in the book every year and all old MOT's etc. If I was to sell it, it might only fetch £2.5k now but I've owned an immaculate car for a year so it's peanuts really.

I agree with GT3. In his case he paid a bit extra for an immaculate car with full history. Had he bought the £2k alternative it's more than feasible that it could've had more problems which would've cost money to fix, the well looked after car with full history is less likely to have problems in my opinion.
I'd always prefer to spend a bit more and buy from somebody that has genuinely cared about their car rather than save a few quid and buy something that was simply a way of getting from A to B to the previous owner.

Thats true if you think your going to keep a car for a while but i think some people get 'bored' of a car and will sell it after a couple of years.
Not sure how long your wanting to keep your MR2 but if youve searched for a good example i pressume a long time.

Not really, I just think buying at this sort of price range spending the extra means you get a much nicer looked after car. I always spend that little bit more and quite often its had more than the price difference spent on it in the last year or so. For example premium tyres, recent cambelt, wheels refurbed etc! I keep car's for generally a year at a time but I'd rather not have an abused example, also even if it's not worth more to sell on to someone else - it will sure sell easier.

Obviously the newer the car, it's a lot easier to find a nicer example. And most £10k cars are treated well because it's cost the owner a fair bit!
