Every worry too much?

This sound more like a psychological issue more than anything :/

Then again I always cared little for cars bar their ability to go from A to B.

This is mental. What is the point in you owning this car if youre going to be up all night worrying about it getting broken into, or some stones chipping the paint!?
The £600 you are going to waste keeping it in storage can go on getting the bumper resprayed before you sell it.

It's a vauxhall at the end of the day not a piece of rare exotica, I'd be more worried about the depreciation and the massive swing away from big engines narrowing your market, yes you keep it in good condition but that may only add a few hundred quid to it when you sell it not keep it worth what you paid for it, are you one of these people that refuses to believe what their car is worth

are you one of these people that refuses to believe what their car is worth

Keeping his car in storage may not strike most of us as entirely sensible but I have absolutely no idea where you've got this idea from

Seems a rather big leap of logic / assumption to me.

Just get rid of it and bank the money until you have somewhere to store a "toy car" properly which isn't 6miles away. Buy a bike if you still want weekend thrills.

in a few months I'm going to be keeping my car at work 2miles away but that's because I don't really need it and it will SAVE me ~£90 a month not having a parking space, not because I'm obsessed with it :p

the obvious answer is don't live somewhere that is ****. Seriously, if the postman is having to scrape past the car to get to your house, and the new place doesnt even have room for it, then your priorities are wrong in owning a monaro! Move to a house with a decent drive (not exactly uncommon, even my lowly rented house can fit 3 cars on the drive without disturbing the postman)

I know exactly where you are coming from.

One of the best things I have done in my life is take the stress of owning a nice car out of the equation and focusing on others things that actually warrant it :)

Seriously get rid, buy a banger be happy :)

I loved my CTR just the same. I lived in a terraced house on a main road and I had to keep it one street away behind the house outside somebody else's houses. The town is a hole, lots of chavs and idiots plus it was parked on the main routes home from the cluster of pubs just down the road. Not once was it touched in 3 years despite it being parked half on the curb half on the narrow road.

There may have been the odd mark on there, but nothing obvious that bothered me that I could trace to any particular event. At the end of the day it's a car, it was my pride and joy and I loved driving it every day. I'd sooner get stone chips, scratches and lose a bit of value than compromise my passion for cars for "what ifs".

I later had had my MX5 in the same place for a few months, not a problem. It's not a stress at all. Only if things do start to happen should you might think about maybe changing things, but even then I'd go down the CCTV and other security routes before letting go, if you really love your cars that much.

The only reason I got rid of my CTR was because my ex wanted to go to uni and we would have been stuck money wise. That was an easy decision to make, family comes first so to speak, but in hindsight... ****!

SELL

£600 a year just on storage? Plus tax, insurance, depreciation etc?
It's costing you thousands a year just for a few weekend hoons.

You could for example spend that same money on several palmersport days a year, where you get to drive a variety of awesome cars, on the limit on a track - with none of the hassle of ownership.

I purposely avoided this by buying a car that's cheap, not flash but a bit of fun when needed and nice to be in.

I nearly took out finance on a brand new Focus a couple of years ago...

Unfortunately I do worry about my car all the time. And sadly it has picked up it's marks thanks to idiots and their lack of care. But that is life unfortunately, it stresses me out stupid amounts when I find a new mark on my car, but you just have to accept it.

Despite only owning a Corsa B at present, I do worry about it as I have had nothing but bad luck with my Cars - my Escort was broken into (despite nothing valuable being on display) and the rear windscreen smashed (on two different occasions);

My old Petrol Corsa B was mostly okay, but it was running very poorly (despite all my attempts at fixing the fueling) and my current Diesel Corsa B has already been broken into and dented up by some idiots who decided to climb on my Garage Roof as well as the dent that occurred when someone went into me when we had the cold snap.

I keep it a 5 minute walk away because it's just not safe here, there is less foot traffic there, so technically it should be safer, plus it's away from the Traffic Officer Routes, so it won't get clamped or ticketed.

But, it's not a very valuable Car. When it's time to scrap it, my replacement Car will hopefully be Alarmed and I intend to move away from this high-crime area as well, somewhere nearer to Work.

Well that's the idea anyway. I'd like to be able to rely less on a Car as a means of transport to Work and get something that's a bit of fun...

Is everything you're doing really worth it?

I thought the same with my Z3.
I sold the Volvo to my flatmate and I now just use the BMW.
It's being parked on a busy (but wide) road in the centre of town so it's absolutely filthy, but for the moment it's relatively scratch-free.

I was thinking about buying a runabout, but I really can't see the point in spending €5-6k, plus insurance yada. Complete waste of money.

£600 really would cover all the damage done to my car parked on the road in a terrible area in Bristol, including a break in, stereo stolen and torn roof, over 4 years, let alone £600 per year.

I look after my car, my neighbours know that despite being an old Skoda it is my P&J and have told their kids not to play near it to the extent that the kids even say "remember, mum told us to be careful not to play near Robs car" when they are playing on the street :p I park it out of the way in car parks and always drive to the roof on multistories where the spaces are bigger and I can tuck it out of the way... and that is where my obsession ends.

Honestly if it is that much of a worry that the worrying about it getting damaged out weighs the enjoyment then maybe you are best off shifting it on.

As has been said, it can be fixed if someone dings it.

Oh and one of the reasons that added up to me ruling out a toy car was the fact that I CBA to do a three car shuffle on the drive to get the toy one out for a hoon, let alone drive 6 miles and get it out of your container! If anything I'd say the chance of you damaging it yourself by trying to store it like that is higher than leaving it on the road!
