spawn - not sure if you have bothered to read this thread but the points you have rasied have been answered about 50 times each already

Yes i realise that they probably have but having to go through so many pages is tiring...but still im at a loss as to why we need to be there??...havent our govts learned from past mistakes that ****ing with someone elses problems causes us problems too...probably not as these politicians are too busy filling their pockets...if Libya didnt have oil and we didnt have any interest in there then i highly doubt we would be bombing Gaddafi to oblivion....

just as tiring as it is to answer the same questions 50 times :)

we are there because Gaddaffi was minutes away from flattening a civilian filled city with tanks

of course we want oil - but you need it just as much as the rest of us do
but we already had oil contracts and if anything oil is more expensive because of this not less

we have learned that interfering is not the best solution, (notice how delicate the coalition has been with everything) but sitting back and allowing Bosnia style cleansing or allowing it to become a failed state (aghanistan or somalia) is a much worse one

armed people attacking goverment forces get killed yes...

miseratah sounds like satajevo my arse go look on the bbc website theres an interview with a women who escaped the city..
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13087583
notice the line of questions the journalist asks brecause shes wanting this woman to say how evil the gaddafi forces in misurata are and how they are raping , targeting civilians etc.

then notice how this woman doesnt respond to the bait.

btw notice how its the rebels that dont let her in the port for 2 days they are the ones holding people hostage in the city , its almost like they are purposely not letting people leavew so they can tell nato how the evil gaddafi forces they keep attacking in the city are killing civilians

****e.. we are there for the oil end of story not the people, theres plenty of other countrys with dictators which are allowed to slaughter there people without USA UN interference, oh but hold on they are either hanging out of the USA's or UN's arse or they have nothing that we need.

We got fed the same old bull about invading afghanistan and iraq, its never about the people its about lining the cooperations pockets !

surely russia or china will beto any new resolution?

You would hope but I have a bad feeling they won't. The Allies will try their hardest to make it worth not vetoing otherwise they will have a serious amount of egg on their faces.

Lets be honest - they have done pretty much everything (no fly zone, bombing, possibly arming them with AKs and RPGs along with body armour and phones etc) apart from boots on the ground (except the special forces that may be there for target acquisition etc) - a new resolution may only need a little rewording, just enough not to warrant a veto from Russia and China. The devil is in the details.

wont suprise me if a new resolution is ground troops... there is no way the rebels are capable of taking the country even if gaddafi has no tanks , apcs etc

Will go down well in the Muslim world if it happens. It will be seen as another attack on a muslim country by western crusaders.

This could turn out to be one hell of a mess.

its got to be ground troops or weapons.

it wont be small arms either because the rebels have already shown time and time again they dont have the balls or the training to handle fire fights like the gaddafi forces do.

arming the rebels is going to create one big bloody mess and if that bloody mess does happen i would love to see cameron , obama and the french guy put on trial for warcrimes like all the people involved in the bosnian war, lets face it the rebels are not disciplined and if they do gain an advantage all of the pro gaddadi suporters are going to get massacred..

imo the best thing that can happen is to divide the country and split the oil revenues before the divide grows to big and we end up with situations like what has happened in africa before

Pro-government forces in Libya have been accused by a human rights campaign group of using cluster bombs, which are banned by more than 100 countries.

Libya is one of the states which has not signed the convention, along with countries such as the US, Israel, Russia and China.

Source

The use of them should be condemned but didn't we only stop using them a few years ago - I wonder how much of a fuss the US will be making.....?

the US can not make a fuss unless they are hypocrites

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_on_Cluster_Munitions#Ratification_status

its not illegal for libya to use cluster bombs it was a volutary ban on them only the countries that signed up banned themselfs.

as you can see the USA did not sign it..

also nato drops tons of them on kosovo in 1998 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/419126.stm
nato refused to clear them up aswell
Bomb disposal team Sergeant George Drysdale: "We are only called to actual sites that concern K-For troops, so we are not in the business of humanitarian clearing, there are non-government organisatons that come here to do that."
thats how much nato cares for civilians

we will find out soon enough if its propaganda by the rebels.

just incase you dont realise this has all come out just after the libyan forces captured the city centre of miserata and pro gaddafi forces have been seen patrolling thre city centre on foot something until now they had not done because of snipers so they must believe the area if safe. , perfect timing for such an acusation ?
[However, Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim rejected the allegations.

"I challenge them to prove it," he said. "To use these bombs, the evidence would remain for days and weeks, and we know the international community is coming en masse to our country soon, so we can't do this."

Libya has invited the UN children's fund to visit Misratah and on Saturday a Red Crescent and Red Cross team will go there, he said.

we will find out the truth soon enough, either way it will be hard to know whos actually fired what

btw Misrata, also spelled Misurata or Misratah is only one city ;) different people use the different spelling and its very annoying
