The 375,466 milestone (rumoured) is coming up soon

I'm wondering if this is something that Valve have put in last minute.

Given the progress so far I don't think they'll all be finished by the actual release. I think Valve expected it to go quicker and they're "fudging" the numbers to make it progress nearer to what they had planned.

Edit: It's passed. Nothing happening on the Glados page though...

Yup, that's an accurate estimate. However, Cogs will be finished very soon which will shave another 40 mins or so off it, taking it to 11am.

While I'm happy that people are having a lot of fun completing this... does anyone else feel that Valve probably got their numbers wrong with this?

Seems like a lot of effort to go to in order to release the game less then a day early.

I agree, the multiplier is supposed to kick into effect which should bring the time down considerably but nobody knows what figure it needs to hit.

Edit: A few of my friends who are doing this said they're not really enjoying it but it's worth it to get portal 2 early. I don't have any of the potato sack games and even if I did, I don't think I could be bothered to play just to release it a few hours extra.

I do thank those that are putting the effort in though

I think all this play to unlock it early is to keep the pc gamers distracted from looking up all the videos of the console pirate version

Well I think the problem comes in that this was a very clear marketing ploy from Valve to help support Indie gamers by tempting Portal fans with an early release...

The problem is that I'm willing to bet a very large percentage of the people doing this were doing it solely to get their mittens on Portal 2 early. From my following of the event a pretty impressive amount of people have been doing it also.

While on the surface it appears to be a win win, I think in reality a lot of gamers are probably starting to feel a little cheated and understandably so. I mean the current projected 16 hours early probably benefits most people very little when taking real life commitments and time-zones into considerations. Here in the UK for instance it will release at like 11-12pm tomorrow night, how many of the thousands of people doing this in Europe are going to benefit much from that exactly?

Seems to me this entire thing was pointless if it wasn't going to lead to a early Sunday release at the latest. In addition ironically I think at the end of the day the Indie developers may be the ones to lose out in the long run because of how many of the thousands of people that bought the potato sack to do this that will shrug it off and not bother next time?

looks like valve is trying to rake in a lot of cash with all these deals. Episode 3 production costs perhaps?

and the threads on those games have been overwhelmingly positive about the game.

If people are stupid enough to waste money on games they don't wanting the vague hope of getting portal 2 early (when lets face it, it's a valve game if it's released on time it's actually about 3 days early) then they'll be stupid enough to do it again.
