Head vs heart?

I really don't get this 'I work for XXXX car company so I must have a car made by them' thing in the trade. It seems to be pretty common. Fair enough if it is a company car but letting 'brand pride' force your own wallet is a bit weird to me.

You'd drive a Bentley if you could afford it :p

I live near Swindon and common as muck doesn't even begin to describe how bad it is around here with every Honda model. There are a huge number for sale around here too for obvious reasons, might be worth checking the SN postcodes for good deals on PH.

The EG that was linked in the first post is absolutly mint.

It was imported by Private imports and a guy called David Greenan owned it for a few years, He just recently sold it to the guy who owns it now.

Both David and john ( Owners of Privateimports ) have had many hondas and make sure they are built / run to the highest standard.

At £3500 its an absolute steal IMO. Very fast car. Im sure i have a video of it on my home PC

Here is the car here - http://www.privateimports.co.uk/sales.php?cars&sales=777

Cheers again everyone for the input, that NSX btw I think might be in the first issue of Total Honda Magazine, owned by a blonde girl from Swindon?

Liam, yeah you are completely right, found a lot of history about it by searching through the forums and youtube etc. Only downside I can find is that it hasn't got some of the reallly nice kit (d2 stoppers, tein coilies, the cage) etc if I buy it. Also the other offput is lack of proof of engine mileage and the fact I'd be wanting to do a cambelt service on the ASAP.

If you were considering the EG it would be worth joining jdmy0 forum ( Google it - dont want to advertise etc etc ) and sending a PM to JOHN F. He knows the car well and could probably give you some more history on it.

Already on jdmy0 but didn't even think about checking there! Have just had a look and really really want the car. Just not sure I can justify the extra £200 on insurance over an EP3 etc. Literally everyone at uni i've mentioned this too thinks I'm a crazy person for even considering it!

But I'd want a Bentley because they are awesome. It's a bit different from wanting a 20 year old Civic in this case, or a run of the mill VW/Audi/Seat when it comes to the guys that I train with - Sometimes the unwillingness to consider something non VAG makes me think they might have been subjected to some sort of mind control :p.

I don't buy the 'You have a better understanding of the product' thing much. A car is a car at the end of the day, you don't need to be working on a specific brand to know common faults or how to fix stuff, 5 minutes worth of googling covers that. Discounted parts is a moot point because you can get at least 10% discount from parts places if you use your head. Easy access to diagnostic equipment is the only half useful thing I can think of, and even then it's not exactly difficult to get your hands on a code reader.

Believe me, I've thought about getting an Audi seeing how they are now on the otherside of the workshop but I just can't justify it to myself whatsoever.

Private imports is where it originally came from, owner used it for a couple of years then sold it to someone on EK9.org. They've now decided they can't really afford it as a commuter to uni so is selling it on.

With regards to the brand loyalty, without looking to argue and de-rail the thread I completely disagree with you. After working in engineering for my placement and speaking to friends/colleagues at other engineering jobs it is clear that experience is worth a great deal with regards to fault finding etc. I'm not saying that google can't reveal all, but it certainly is no replacement for the actual knowledge database held by the car producer.

Also, don't really get the Bentley thing, must be an in joke I missed, but your opinion of awesome is completely different to mine. Sod it though, that's what makes cars and forums fun!
