Decent PC is 8 times more powerful than PS3

Why do people blurt nonsense about pc gaming being expensive? I recently upgraded my 4 year old system for less than 500 quid (mobo, cpu, ram, gfx card, & ssd), and I expect it to last at least 3 years. I remember years ago paying something ridiculous like 200 quid for a stick of 512mb xms ram.

That argument has become out-of-date, yes. I think the real factor is convenience over price. Some people own two or more of the consoles on the market today which will cost more than a gaming capable PC.

Consoles need to appeal to mass market so they need to be simple and easy to use unlike gaming on a PC which can be tedious and frustrating at times. The average Joe just wants to plug-in and "play a bit of CoD, like". They'll pay for this convenience to have the privilege so prices can be inflated.

Make the hardware cheap and sell the games (and peripherals) for more seems to be the best model. Developers/Publishers will make a ton more profit on consoles than on PC so it'll obviously be their primary market. We won't see any significant console hardware advances until the difference is great enough for people to want to pay.

Plus the second hand market too.

It won't be long until the second hand market ceases to exist. Now that Internet connections are more common place and becoming faster games will be purchased and downloaded instead of physical media. That game will then be tied to your account and you won't be able to sell it. Could probably take a good few years to get to this point though as it hasn't completely happened for PC yet.

Yeah generally, though if a game is released on consoles first then it will usually be cheaper, so Fable 3 can be had for £18 on 360 now but will be £28 on PC and isn't out until September.

18 quid on 360...but then you need a 360 :)

I thought it was out in May on PC?

well hopefully with the likes of bf3 we are going to see a massive gap between consoles and pc's emerge. This thread was a bit pointless but i game on both and would gladly spend more money on a pc for a much better experiance

You dont have to wait for BF3 to see the gap...take 4 year old Crysis 1 which has the best graphics out of any game ever invented - people are only just starting to play this game now, after 4 years, because only now can people enjoy this game with current hardware, in all its glory:

1680x1050 - Max settings - edge AA - DX10 - using Real Lifesis mod for Time of Day and lighting/blurring + very high spec config:

Here's some picture's without the blurring effects:

TBH those screenshots look horrible and overexposed. Unmodded Crysis looked way better than that. What's with everything 10 metres in front of you being blurry?

No they don't  It looks like real life would look on a very bright summers day

Also the blur is the depth of field effect. it's a little overdone, but it's like in real life when you focus on something everything around it is blurry.

Your response was kinda pointless tbh because I posted 5 pictures which had a lot of blur using real lifesis mod, and then posted a further 3 pictures which are just the default game without real lifesis and no blur. I did this so people like you wouldnt complain and say "dont like the blur" lol...So you cant have read my full post.

If you scroll just above the last three pictures there's a sentance that says "Here's some picture's without the blurring effects:".

The blur is personal preference, you can play with or without it. You can make the game look anyway you want it to look, but this is the way I prefer it to look. I personally dont see point being able to see trees as clear on the mountains in the distance just as clear as the tree am stood next to, dont make sense.

PS3 cost me £250, gaming PC cost me £900.

When I look at Uncharted 2 on PS3, then metro or crysis on PC, I don't see 3.6x better graphics

Of course consoles don't have the bells and whistles, but as has already been said they are still good value.

Really? Is that including your television? Did you go all out and buy the most expensive pc hardware you can find?

Don't pull that one.

i don't own a console.. so lets say i wanted to get ps3.. i would need around 200+ for PS3 + ~30quid for each game + a 200-300 TV

so for tv and ps3 we already got around 500quid.. add some games (GT5/some fps/ etc) we will be close to 600quid..

now for 600 quid i can buy a VERY capable PC + monitor + peripherals.. and games too from steam for e.g. + have all the benefits..

but then again pc is the "complicated way" while console is the "easily accessible" way to gaming.. ;)

In many cases, people will own both PC/laptop and console. Let's take a quick look at how the two potential routes may pan out - all in one PC, console+PC. (oh and erm, people, most of you will want a telly anyway, you can use teles as monitors, monitors/pcs as tvs and so on - so that argument is irrelevant no?)

Hypothetically speaking, lets say I go to a high street chain and buy a PC, then a console for my gaming needs and other the next few years buy 10 or so games at £30 each. Cost = ~£400 for a PC/laptop + £250 for a console and a few accessories + £300 for games.

Our other option is to go on OCUK and buy ourselves some bit's/prebuilt :p system. I reckon that for £450-£650 would give you a top-notch system that'll last you a few years and give you scope to upgrade for the next 5-6 years at least (porbably longer in terms of PSU, case, mouse, keyboard, speakers, HDDs, disc drives and so on).

End result, overall cost is essentially the same.

With the PC you get the graphics, power, and of course the mouse and keyboard, but there is less of a community/split screen/party vibe going on with the PC.

Lol what a retarded test.

Also them Crysis screenshots look terrible. Real lifesis is not good.

How can you say that

Can you really take a look at pictures like these:

http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/crysis_tod_art_339kdpl.jpg

http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/hrkduw.jpg

And then just say real lifesis sucks?

The first and the last pic were taken in game, the middle I believe was taken using a custom cry engine2 scene.

When I show people pictures like these, I don't tell them that they're crysis screens, and everyone thinks that it's real life. When I tell them that it's crysis, I've had responses ranging from "Oh yeah, I knew that" to "BS that's a game and not real life"

Well i have gone and bought an xbox elite from the manager market for 80 quid. Reason. All my mates play on the console and im bored of lonely gaming.

They are cheaper but as someone who buys games for both, you would have to buying 5+ games a month for the difference to a relevant amount. If you buy a game every couple of months then the difference isn't worth thinking about. Look at the top sellers on one of the main game sites

Over what time period exactly? Yes if you look at only 1 month the difference between 1 or 2 games could amount to maybe £10-30. But over the whole life time of your console before it burns out and you need a new 1 or they release a 'better' version (ie the same but with a 'cooler' name and a bigger HDD)?

Because people only buy a TV to use consoles on?

There really isn't a straight answer to that. The tv downstairs connected to the Wii was clearly not bought for the Wii. The tv in my room that i used on my PS2 was mostly used for the console with DVD/TV coming in second till i got bored of it. TVs cost several times more than a monitor and you wouldn't just use a monitor for gaming any less than you would just use a tv for gaming.

It looks overexposed and just too overdone, if people think it's real life they should get out more!
