Anyone not watch the news?

If watching depressing news depresses you that much you disconnect yourself from any sort of media (keeping the internet) then you are probably best off kept safe in your own world

At the time yes i did find the news a tad depressing it was an awkward time and when i have important personal stuff to hand then i reduce the input, and concentrate on what matters most.
I dont "block" out the world, am a sociable enough person and don't feel the need to be "kept safe" in my "own world".

Like it or not i am as much a part of this world as the next person and am equally happy on my own or involved in social projects. :)

Don't watch TV, not for the last 18 months or so, don't miss it one bit tbh.
By extension I don't watch any news programs either, or read newspapers, or papers of any description.
However, I do listen to R4/world service (what's left of it anyway) every day. I also look for news online, bbc/independent etc, no times anymore.

The thing that always used to annoy me about television news, regional and national (and this applies to the radio to some extent too) is the level of opinion and speculation of events - newscasters interviewing each other for lack of any actual facts to report, for example.
I understand it's supposed to make for interesting current affairs, but I'm not interested in an opinion of events, I'd rather hear the facts and make up my own mind.

It's enough to have a rough handle on what's happening in the world without becoming totally immersed in bad news; 24 hour on the hour reporting news and opinion, repeated over and over. With some stories and articles you can see from the breaking of a story to the repetition of it, how the editorial process subtly changes how the event is reported and presented to the viewer. Take some of the more sensational news stories (the invasion of iraq, for instance) and see how even our dear old bbc spins the news.
News is a business like any other after all.

I don't go out of my way to watch news on TV, but I read the paper and I read news stories online. I just get bored watching news broadcasts for some reason.

I'll watch the news if it's on sometimes but that's it.

I read about it on the internet. I discovered about Japan around 2 hours after it happened, followed it live unfolding on various online news streaming sites. I like being aware, and not pretending bad stuff doesn't happen.

@bakes0310 - I can't understand why you'd want to join the Army if you have absolutely no interest in what's happening in this country and around the world.

I check the BBC News website a few times a week or watch the headlines at 6 or 10PM. But the amount of "News" which doesn't appear in the media is massive, always keep that in mind.
