H70 loud! - Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom better?

I'd imagine you'd leave the block where it is and just use the splitter on the fans to the CPU_FAN header.

The Gentle Typhoons are great fans, I have the 1450 and 1850 ones, the latter aren't particularly quiet though, not sure they're PWM either. I use Noiseblocker BlackSilentPros on my HSF, they're good as well.

Ok.

I've got 2 Akasa vipers sat in the house (delivered today), but I'm going to try the stock fans with the PWM first, to see what difference it makes.

Might also try the H70 in one of the top fan mounts, drawing air in as I feel drawing the air in from the back of the case to be a bit of a strange move, given the gpu is pumping out hot air and the case is around 6 inches from a wall = sucking all the hot air being pumped out by the components.

im running h70 with appache blacks totally silent.

edit: i see you got venoms still would be better then stock fans it would push more air trough with less noise

The stock fans aren't PWM. You can't make it into something it's not.

D'oh, yes indeed.

Looks like I'm going to have to go straight with the Vipers.

@psychas ... are you running with a PWM splitter and using the BIOS to ramp up speed as needed?

Done some preliminary testing..

H-70 intake, stock Corsair fans at 100%, 1 side exhaust and 2 front intakes.

H-70 intake, Akasa Viper fans on PWM (20%), 1 side exhaust and 2 front intakes.

The difference is night and day. You can't even hear the system running with the Vipers set to "Turbo" in the Asus BIOS. I presume the fans will ramp up when the temps get high, but I didn't think it would be so quiet with such a minimal increase in temps

All other fans in the system are Fractal Design silent 120mm running on a PCI fan controller set to max.. Have ordered some Apache blacks to replace them, so will report back then.

The H70 is mounted as a rear intake. Did briefly try to have it in the top of the case but the hoses weren't playing ball and I didn't want to have to re-seat the pump.

Hi, my CPU 920 4.2GHz + H50 x2-Vipers never went over 70'c, last summer even at its hottest spell, after running P95 for 1 hour peaked at 76'c, Vipers set to exhaust.

I have read that Corsair had improved the fans on their H2o kits, just check your Bios setting is right, l use PWN in my Bios for the like of Vipers as the are PWM fans. :)

I have two H60 running in machines and 1 H70 all set to silent in ASUS setups,

The CPU are overclocked and the temps are fine

The only Noise I get is when the Pc,s boot up then go very quiet

What speed does Q-Fan set the fans to on the Silent profile? I'm assuming the silent profile doesn't speed the rpm up slightly at all? hence silent. As I have mine on manual settings, if it reached 40c it'll up the rpm to my specific % duty mode.

I wish I could pick any percentage on manual. I really detest what Asus thinks you'll need. Not giving me full control. I'm also sick of them always having values of 10's. I want to punch in my own numbers!

Manual the lowest I can pick is 50% fan speed, which is about 1200-1300rpm, I've set it to 60% duty when it reaches 40c which bumps it to 1400-1500rpm.

yes im ruining PWM splitter

edit: good to see you enjoy the silence

I use the AI suite and fan expert,

My silent is at 68% approx 1366 RPM

Im looking at getting two of these: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-061-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4

To stick on my alc eco. I'll be intersted to see what the temps on the apache come to. BTW, other than colour, whats the diff. between the above and apache blacks?

Apache black is the same fan, but runs at a lower max rpm, so pushes less air.

Here's some temp readings with the vipers on CPU, and some apache blacks instead of my usual case fans..
