Comfortable with rear seats for 3k ... what would you get?

Just of curiosity, what can I have for 3k that doesn't cost a fortune to insure, isn't rotten all over and ticks those 2 boxes? :)
I was thinking clio 172 for a start, what ware the other candidates

MR2?

EDIT:

I think I have it down to an Accord (Type R ideally) or Mazda 6 (maybe even the estate version)

EDIT2: Pinkribbonscars, because given the fact that I CAN get a Type R, I may as well get one

The Type R is not really that much more expensive to run though

Anyway, I'm looking at Mazda 6s now more than the Accord, as they are the more "grown up" option

With that little money you can choose:

a) Comfort
b) Reliability
c) Excitement

You can have 2 of those, not all 3 :p

Wouldn't an ST220 tick all three? Not sure of the quality of the £3K examples, mind.

Better vfm with the Mazda 6 but don't get too hooked up about the specs, the base model is very well specced in the first place, I've had a petrol and a diesel. The petrol was slow and juicy and took ages to rev up and down, the diesel is a better engine.

My back arches right under started bubbling and panels are really flimsy and ding easily

If fuel costs aren't concern (or if it is, try to find an LPG one?) you can do a lot worse than a Ford Explorer. I had mine for 12 years, was totally faultless, loads of room and will cruise quietly for hours at anything up to and including 100MPH. They don't handle well, and it's a bit plastic inside, but you get big leather seats, they're incredibly cheap, incredibly comfortable and incredibly reliable. Not everyone's cup of tea but just thought I'd throw it out there ;)

Hmm, not sure I want a huge SUV such as an explorer, I'm not looking to stand out like a drug dealer

That's the thing, I'm torn between the Accord Type R excitement and the more mature choice of a Mazda 6 lol

Unless you put stupid wheels on them and lower the suspension, they don't stand out at all - they're no more drug-dealerish than any 4x4. That said, the Honda Accord type r is a great car, I'd just say it's a bit overkill for your needs.
