Can we have a sub-forum for religious discussion please?

I really respected you for apologising in the last thread. Don't ruin things now. That was a big move you made. I don't know if I would have been big enough to do that.

I'm surprised that thread was deleted. I expected some discussion of a mature nature from the dons. In fact, its deletion reinforced its argument.

I have no problem apologising if I know I'm in the wrong, which I clearly was. However it is up to the mods to decide on what threads are deleted, and I have commented in worse threads this evening than yours. So I agree with you again.

Should a member really have to post in SC just to say 'Happy Easter'? The responses some members gave him were out of line regardless of where the OP posted. Is 'Happy Easter' really an SC worthy topic? It's definitely not discussion of a newsworthy event, nor even a religious one. It was just 'Happy Easter'.

no, people should expect and receive respect and decent behaviour, as I said I was not about so not sure of what happened

The issue with the thread was that it was firstly going over ground already covered and secondly was something that should be discussed offline if a member feels that the moderation was incorrect

What ground, the ground that quality moderation is lacking? That today's terrible show exemplifies why we should have a religious subforum? No, news to me.

The idea of posting it in a thread was to discuss it within the community, Rotty.

You think it would be better off in SC? Then put it in SC. It was deleted because you would rather bury it than address the issues it raised. Which is like killing a patient rather than removing a single tumor.

It is called an opinion, a valid one considering the context.

And does GD not stand for General Discussion and not General Disrespect.

Didn't say it wasn't an opinion, just a pointless one that was going to poke the hornets nest a little.

Where other religions special days are observed people are a lot more accepting and either post good wishes or ignore the thread. But then those religious days are not now known more for a freaky big bunny that hides chocolate eggs (and lets be honest, eggs are now more about what extras you get in the box more than just the egg!).

People were posting with relevence to what the day means to them, which is 'general discussion', surely.

Lysander, in all due respect your timing was terrible. It looked like you were throwing toys out of the pram and inviting the same nonsense that you want to combat to ridicule your thread.

If the OP doesn't want a religious thread to descend into argument and rhetoric, he should spell that out in the opening post and moderators should help respect/enforce that where possible.

I don't agree about more draconian moderation. I do however agree that the religious threads are now so tiresome and predictable I avoid them altogether.

I wasn't personally insulted. They were general comments on the forum.

you were not raising a thread to discuss anything other than moderating quality and re raising a closed matter

neither are for discussion one here, the first is for offline discussion the second has been dealt with

this will be closed shortly

Fair play Rotty. Some of us just really hated how Squark was treated by some members. A lot of plain nasty posts were left standing (despite Don warnings) yet as soon as Lysander said it was wrong to treat people like that, HIS thread went. It just didn't look good overall is all, even though I'm sure the Dons didn't mean it like that. :)

For example:

He didn't invite page after page of trolling and ridicule.

Yes he did. After all, this is GD.

sponge apologised and wasn't the main protagonist in Squark's thread, but it illustrates the attitude towards a simple 'Happy Easter guys' thread. It's disgraceful. I'm not Christian myself, but I do try to treat others with respect and dignity.

I thought he was also raising the issue of a religious sub forum? It's tricky to check though.
