I think it's about time Sony come clean and gave specific reasons for the outage. If there are rumours that personal details have been leaked then surely they could either confirm that (which would be alarming as they should have done that anyway) or confirm no details were leaked and thus restore some peoples trust.
As diss said, if its CC details then they would have had to already come clean by now - something like the possibilities of fraud is too big of an issue to cover up. Im sure if personal information has been released (I guess what info you need to open a PSN account) then theres more than likely a nice fine heading Sonys way...

Theres numerous other similar search results on google also.
Not everyone was down but everyone i knew had interupted service or no service at all at times for around 2 weeks. This was down to poor planning by MS with their servers not being up to the task, in this case its Sonys security being breached possibly down to poor security. Then again the Pentagon had secrets stolen from them by the Chinese in 07 and i would have thought they would have some top notch security involved.
Dont think you can compare the seriousness of the situations just that the outcome was pretty much comparable.

So if true it leads to hackers who only or most claim "I dont do it for free games" Well imo its ******** most of them do and even if they dont it always seems to lead to trouble for people who buy their games all the time and use the consol as its intended for bah! /rant over
I've discredited that article straight away - "many of its teenage customers". I think you'll find it's people in their 30s that own the bulk of the PS3s.
While repeatedly using the same nonce was shocking I cannot believe that Sony could have an even greater flaw in their system like that. Besides why would they take down the entire network instead of just the store?
