Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

I've been playing this for a a few hours now, trying to do all the side quests before completing the main ones and am really enjoying it. Quite surprised by all the hate in this thread, its not as good as the original (which im going to play again when im done) but when not comparing it is still a good game.

I really, really want to encourage you to come back and post again after you have completed it. What makes it quite so naff are the ineffectual story line outcomes, in that what ever you chose, whichever side you play, the outcome is always exactly the same.

Maybe spoiler, i will blue it out just in case:

For instance in the final act, you have to choose between siding with the Templars, the leader of which is hellbent on destroying all the mages, or the Mages, all of who used blood magic and turn into abominations. Doesnt matter which side you choose, you still end up fighting and killing both of them. I don't consider that a spoiler because its so utterly ****

Or merrills story quest. What ever you do, you end up fighting and slaughtering everybody, including all the named NPCs, in the elvish mountain camp. What the ****????

Yeah i can see the negatives but it doesnt stop it being an enjoyable game in its own right.

But some of us weren't looking for the game to be 'enjoyable in its own right'. We were looking for a sequel to Dragon Age: Origins, which was 'epic in its own right'. Not to mention everything i saw in the demo alone was so far-fetched and far-removed from the original i never want to play it again.
Morrigan spends her childhood protected by Morinth in the forest which is how she avoided the templars.
The Dukes son was possessed after trying to learn magic illegally and all ell broke loose.
And... Hawkes family somehow stayed in a Templar occupied town and kept 1 or 2 mages hidden in plain sight and trained them up without catching anyones attention? Plus they went from 3 playable races and 2/3 backgrounds each to 1 with the same background regardless.

To be honest im generally more into the gameplay than the storyline, usually skip big dialogues but for some reason haven't at all in this game. I don't think a few inconsistencies inj the story are going to bother me that much.

The game itself is an inconsistency. All the gameplay changes were the flies on the turd.

Seriously if all you wanted was the combat, why not just play an Action RPG?

Where did i say all i liked was combat? I played this one because i liked the previous one. I prefer the gameplay mechanisms such as levelling, skills, different equipment, party structure and interraction etc and prefer the combat in the DA games to your usual action RPG. I've played all the "classic" RPG's and loved them, just because im not into the storyline as much doesn't mean i don't enjoy the genre as much as someone else.

I think the folder sizes tell everything anyone needs to know about Dragon Age 2.

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition - 27.0GB (Awakening etc. installed too, but still impressive)
Dragon Age 2 - 6.15GB (that's with high res textures and voiced main character)

I started re-playing Dragon Age Origins yesterday and even though I'm barely leaving Ostagar now, it's miles above almost anything Dragon Age 2 offered. Worst sequel ever? Could be.

Terrible game, terrible sequel.I loved dao but bioware let me down with this below average game.
I don't think it was anything to do with high expectations, it was just a poor game.
I also don't like the whole gypsy thing that was going on with the game.

Sorry another blued out spoiler what?!?! moment. If anybody can explain this one to me i would be much obliged:

Ok so there are rumours of women going missing under strange circumstances, and body parts in bags. All rather creepy. So how does this story conclude? Oh right, your mother is turned into frankensteins monster because some dude took a bit of a fancy to her face, and its your job to batter her back into the underworld of dead.

Are You Freaking Kidding Me?

I dont know what you are asking exactly. Its a game with magic and flying dragons, were you expecting realism? wrt the second spoiler in your first post, you're talking nonsense since you dont have to kill anybody.

Spoiler below (highlight to read):

The blood mage's motive is a strange one ("reconstructing" a likeness of his dead wife). Although the white lilies as Quentin's calling card were a nice touch.

The other thing is, almost every mage you meet is dabbling in blood magic, consorting with\summoning demons or turning into abominations. I guess the idea there was to make the Templars seem justified to clamp down on them.

The main idea is to make both sides of the conflict morally wrong - with the exception of but a few mages (your sister being the most prominent case) the vast majority dabble in blood magic. Likewise, the Templars are either abusive and/or corrupt. The basis for this however lies in the fact that Kirkwall is built around an area where the veil is very thin (due to occult activity in the past) so demons of all kinds can influence mortals easily.

BioWare rush DA2; blame release date for bad sales.

I would post the link to rpgcodex regarding this discussion but it contains an upsetting swear word :(

1) Another reason Origins sold awesomely was because it was awesome, whereas DA2 was not awesome
2) Origins and DA2 both sold awesomely, but only one actually sold awesomely because it was awesome
3) Origins and DA2 both sold awesomely, because both were awesome games
lol :D

A shame Meredith was basically a bad case of PTSD and lyrium-ex-machina :p even worse with the Sith Lord-esque final fight...

Just started playing this game.

Must say graphics are amazing compared to the first game and the combat is fun etc...

One problem however. Is there a known issue with some of the cut scenes?

I running ATI 11.4 drivers and latest patch for the game, and some of the cut scens in kirkwall, where stuttering and pausing etc.... every other aspect ofthe game is as smooth as butter however.

Also in my experience, review sites and online benchmarks, sometimes, do not represent the truth. according to this review, it makes it look like the game really bring even a GTX 580 to its knees, where as my 'little' 5870 is currently playing at 1920x1200 with all settings maxed, and the game is smooth like butter.

Am I missing something here?

The cut scene I refer to above, I dont think is the card struggling..... I mean combat and running around etc is smooth.... and I'v only scene it stutter at the beginning in kirkwall.
