Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

i was just thinking, when sony turn psn back on, ps3 does the firmware update and it asks us to change our passwords etc,

how wil they know its going to be the real user changing the password - some may not beable to go online for a few days/weeks.

are they doing something where it will only let you change your password if its done on the orig console (ie matching ps3 serial/id to the account) if it dosent match youi need to phone them or something

What, why? They've already said that the credit card details were encrypted.

Well the email i got from sony doesnt say any thing about credit card details being encrypted

If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

I have had an email from Sony saying the same as the above, I'll take Sonys word over Eurogamer and it says on the email it may have been obtained.

I expect Sony to sort out some serious compensation for this.

Dont understand why people dont get that "data being obtained" doesnt necessarily mean it wasnt encrypted or if it was encrypted that that encryption has been broken...

Yep paranoid, just get your debit card replaced - though I dont understand why people use them online when the benefits of a credit card is so more suitable for this particular usage. Obviously I understand if your not old enough or have a really bad credit history you cant. Having one doesnt necessary mean you need credit, but Id rather their money go missing than mine technically :p

What do you mean just get it replaced? You mean cancel this one and get a new one? So I'm not being paranoid?

No you are definitely being too paranoid in moving money from one account to another - did you not realise you can get the debit card cancelled and replaced - normally takes 10 working days at a guess? Its only recommended as they dont tend to have the same level of fraud protection that credit cards do...

No harm in calling Halifax and seeking advice if you still arent too sure

Yea might give them a buzz tomorrow, if they are open. I heard theres some kind of big event.

Pretty sure youd be fine to ring their lost/stolen line which should be 24hrs - look at the back of your card and maybe try them now? No doubt you wont be the first to call them re the PSN hack...
