Hadn't realised this (as I've never been to see one) but was talking to a friend who said that she'd been to see one and it turns out that they also call themselves 'Dr'????

I was always under the impression that Chiropractors were a bunch of quacks and not much better than homeopaths etc.. How come they're seemingly allowed to call themselves 'Dr' ?

There is a distinction between a medical practitioner which IIRC is protected by law and the term 'doctor' which is simply that you have obtained say, a doctorate from a University.

If you're really that interested, the distinction is in the Medical Act 1983 which defines what you can and cannot call yourself :

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1983/54/section/49

Subject to subsection (2) below, any person who wilfully and falsely pretends to be or takes or uses the name or title of physician, doctor of medicine, licentiate in medicine and surgery, bachelor of medicine, surgeon, general practitioner or apothecary, or any name, title, addition or description implying that he is registered under any provision of this Act, or that he is recognised by law as a physician or surgeon or licentiate in medicine and surgery or a practitioner in medicine or an apothecary, shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale

I expect, just after the Viva? :D

And right before the guy with the thesis on the healing properties of magnets shows up to present his to the professors at some magical university that people seem to assume dishes out PhDs for this sort of stuff......

I mean seriously - Chiropractors with PhDs

Surely this is a wind up?

There are Chiropractic courses that offer PhD's.

I'm confused what makes you think chiropractors are a bunch of "quacks"?

A lot of GP's now recomend them, it's no different to physiotherapy for some injuries..
