Chiropractors calling themselves 'Dr'

So not a PhD then....

But still...

WTF

We let them call themselves 'Dr'....

I'm gobsmacked

They may be a doctor of some description, but they are not MDs, which frankly is a more important distinction.

MD is a doctor of medicine. Dr can be anybody with a PhD in something or another.

Yes that's great, I know what a PhD is I'm not talking about PhDs or people with any other doctorate.

There are other reasons but most of all it comes down to tradition, you can't just say someone is called a doctor because he's an MD, otherwise lawyers should be called doctors too since they are JD (Juris Doctor)

I was always under the impression that Chiropractors were a bunch of quacks...

AECC is the college that I went too for 5 years (not in practice at the moment though), although there are some other universities offering Chiropractic degrees in the UK (see Here)...hardly the education of a "quack" or charlatan!

Chiropractors practice under the Chiropractors Acts 1994 and are regulated by The General Chiropractic Council

Doesn't necessarily stop them being quacks

some guff universities offer homeopathy courses too

Do any of the serious research led universities offer Chiropractor training?

Fun fact surgeons stop being doctors when they finish their training.

They give up the title and become Mr.

Im not being an ass this is a honest question.

But what do they teach you that takes 5 years? Do you do all the basic medical sciences? if so why not just go to a proper medical school and do some sort of add-on course?

Do they really believe they can help with Internal medical pathologies by manipulating the spine?

Some posted earlier about this.

Holders of FRCS (and the new, but not old, Membership - MRCS) often choose to relinquish their title of "Doctor", reverting to "Mr", "Mrs" or "Miss". This is a relic from times past when surgeons did not attend medical school and were simply skilled tradesmen, amputating limbs or removing bladder stones, and learning their skills through apprenticeship

They are still referred to as Dr outside the hospital.

If you've ever had serious back pain a chiropractor is a lifesaver, not a "quack".

Had Joint pain like knee elbow hip and shoulder.

Chiros have done more for me then Doctors over the years. They probably helped keep me out of the doctors a fair bit too.

I know its very very sad but almost all of my friends are Medical doctors and I don't think I have heard a single one refers to them self as Dr outside the hospital.

Some of my friends have changed their card details etc to Dr xyz, but for some reason I can't bring myself to do it, I don't really care if people know that I'm a doctor or not outside of work!

really?

I could be wrong but my understanding for example in the life sciences you do 3 years of undergrad (BSC) if you have got at least a 2.1 you can go directly into a PHD which takes around 4 years.

At med school we always used to rip the dentists for why they needed to study for 5 years, haha. But secretly a little jealous because it seemed quite chilled out and they're now raking it in, unbelievable.
