Want suggestions on an Upgrade

I just compared the specs of that with my current card, and my current card has a higher core speed and the same type of graphics RAM, so I dont see how upgrading something that I know I don't need to upgrade would help with my memory issues.

I feel i need to upgrade my RAM because my memory gets maxed out constantly, and i'm pretty sure the memory being maxed out isn't something to do with my graphic card.

Also, I don't trust ATI, had too many issues with them in the past to trust them.

Look at the frame rates of the HD 5850 (single card) compared to a GTS 250:

Nearly double in some cases.

And there's nothing wrong with ATI cards or their drivers.

I've used them for around the last 3 years with no problem.

A far better upgrade than messing about with your RAM.

I use 2 monitors, always have, from the specs of that card it can only handle 1 monitor and that's no good for me.

Have you seen the connections on that 5850?

-Display Connectors: 1 Dual-Link DVI-I, 1 HDMI & 1 DisplayPort

I'm not sure which you're referring to but the HD 5850 can work with 3 monitors (with the right connections) and the GTS 250 with 2.

1 Dual-Link DVI-I, 1 HDMI & 1 DisplayPort

I need 2x of the Dual-Link DVI-I for my monitors. the HDMI is nice I can plug that into my HD tele, but it would stretch across the room.

Didn't know those types of adapters existed, i'll get the card and the adapter and try it out, I could return it if I'm not happy with the results.

Thanks for the suggestions, If i continue to have RAM issues, i'll be back for more suggestions.

I don't know where you're located but if you go into the shop and buy it you won't be able to return it.

If you buy it mail order, and notify OcUK within the time period allowed by the Distance Selling Regulations (7 working days from the day after the day you receive the goods), then you can return it even if it's been opened.

Well, the parts arrived, but to my suprise the adaptor that I ordered so I could use a 2nd monitor turned out that DVI-I Connectors dont even fit into it, so now I'm stuck using 1 monitor, and to be honest I've not really seen that much of a performance increase from the last card I had.

It was suggested that my Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 1024MB was just a renamed 9800GT, but I'm seeing similiar speeds to what I had before (In terms of FPS), but I'm still having issues with things taking it's time to load and other such things.

So, have I wasted my money if thats the case?

What you should have done is listen to the original advice you were given and not got shirty with people who were just trying to save you money. Rather than spending money on a dead socket you would have been better off selling your mobo/cpu/ram and upgrading the lot.
