Looks like the Americans are gearing up for the release of the playbook...now i just wish we in Europe would get a release date as i need to order a few of them for my company...obviously i get to keep one for myself:p:D...64gb model it is:D

Looks like its due out in N america around 10th of April judging by the rumours on crackberry.

Yep looks like N America will get it first then Europe and rest of the world...lucky for me that im off to Canada in a few weeks time to go see my brother and give him a hand with some work he needs doing...so ill probably pick one up from there...gonna try and bag a 64gb wifi model if they are out...not interested in the 3G models....ill just cover it on my expenses:p:D

Prices arent too bad...looks like ill pop over the border from Canada and just pick up one from there....wont bother buying one here in the UK as it will probably be a rip off....i imagine there wont be a problem with the WIFI one working here in the UK but definitely need to check that thoroughly.
 
Well, I'm getting an iPad2 next week so that will tide me by, it will be interesting to see how this holds up though, it does look good.

The wifi one will work fine here, I cant think of a single reason why it wouldn't.

Well i was also considering the ipad2 but seeing as i have the iphone4....having one apple product is about as much as i can take:p.

Looking forward to having one in my hands...7" is about the perfect size for me....another reason why i discounted the ipad due to the size of it....just hoping that the delay in the release will be worth it, fingers are crossed that theres no major OS issues ie bugs and glitches.

Should be interesting to see what sort of apps make their way over the BB playbook from android app developers....there wont be a mrketplace as such, just means that android devs will have to re-package and codesign their apps to the BB appworld...

Nope doesnt seem like it will be better than the ipad2...its a shame that RIM has taken this long to get them out, should have released it back in Feb which was the original launch date but meh not interested in the closed nature of the ipad2 OS, i have an iphone4 so find it a tad fustrating lol...plus im sorry to say the size is too big for me...sure they have thinned it down but the 7" size of the playbook will suit me perfectly i think as its much more pocketable than any of the Android and apple tablets...not only that it will be a perfect match with my BB devices.

4 days before it launches in Canada/America...so ill wait to see what people on crackberry say before getting one myself...im off to Canada in a couple of weeks myself for some business so ill probably pick up a 64gb version while im out there.
 
No email or calendar seems pretty poor, especially for this type of device, although apparently they'll be available in the summer.

Yep at launch they wont be available...which makes me wonder why release it without those 2 major apps but it will be available later in a firmware update....although for the time being pairing it to your BB device will give you email and calendar functions.

Yeah, it does seem a bit rushed. I wonder if some other 3rd parties will write some apps in the mean time for it.

Not sure I'd call this sexy :p

I think Blackberry and Android lovers are being way too stubborn when it comes to tablets.

You can see in the ASUS Transformer thread everyone is more or less hugely underwhelmed with the Transformer but people are just not saying much instead of slating it :p

While the size may be better with the Playbook, an extra 2-3 inches on a device that is big anyway just makes it even better to use, it doesn't really make it any more difficult to use.

Just like those Netbook laptops are bloody horrible.

Given you have an iPhone as a multimedia device Spawn, you ought to be getting an iPad 2 bud.

Bit like when the iPhone came out without MMS and such like. At least with the Playboook they'll be an option for 3rd party apps to fill the gap :D

There wont be any need to as when you bridge your BB device with the playbook, you will get access to email and calendar apps but they will be coming later..

Why No Native Email, Calendar, Contacts, BBM on the BlackBerry PlayBook? RIM has christened the BlackBerry PlayBook as The First Professional Grade Tablet. To be able to lay claim to that title and to get to market sooner rather than later, RIM has to ensure the BlackBerry PlayBook is secure. The BlackBerry Smartphone and traditional BlackBerry Operating System (as found in phones) are trusted and battle tested by enterprise. For the past decade they have proven their security. The BlackBerry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX operating system, not the traditional BlackBerry Operating System found in phones. While RIM is working hard to secure up QNX and to hook the PlayBook up directly to RIM's servers (and as discussed above also needs to deal with the issue of multiple pins working together for one user), the quickest way for RIM to create a secure environment on their tablet was to piggy back on the security of the phones. Because none of the critical BlackBerry Bridge data is actually stored on the PlayBook or transmitted to servers directly from the PlayBook, the device is as secure as BlackBerry Smartphones since the paired BlackBerry Smartphone is the secure tunnel connection back to RIM from the PlayBook. So in enterprise, the PlayBook represents the best of both worlds - all of the security of BlackBerry Smartphones combined with the benefits of the tablet form factor and new operating system. RIM has already said that native email, PIM, BlackBerry Messenger, etc. support will come to the PlayBook, but in the meantime the BlackBerry Bridge allows them to get into market quickly and securely. For consumers however, especially those who don't have a BlackBerry Smartphone to bridge to, it means you're going to be stuck using webmail via the web browser for the time being, or hopefully some third party developers will build some apps. The good news is that once native email and PIM support is rolled out by RIM, it should be made available to all PlayBooks, even the WiFi-only versions, via a software update. Here's to hoping that happens asap.

Well granted thats a review unit;)....so the actual real tablets wont have those ugly stickers on the devices....plus looking at the various videos of it, it does look nice...but ill only be able to tell when i have one in my hands if its as nice as the videos make it out to be.

LOL sorry owning one apple device is about as much as i can take:p...the ipad2 is nice dont get me wrong but like i said the size of it is a deal killer for me and i dont use those horrible netbooks either:p...i do like the thinness of the ipad2 though but still its not enough for me to even bother considering...

Personally im not even 110% sure if ill get a playbook...depends on how itchy my wallet gets lol...from reading the crackberry review...it seems like its good but could have been better so i might just hang fire and wait for the next gen playbook to come out and see if any major improvements have been implemented...this is RIMS first foray into the tablet market so im under no illusion that the playbook isnt as good as say the ipad2...shame really but it seems like a decent entry for RIMs first foray into the tablet market....i definitely cannot wait for the QNX OS to make its way over to their devices...might be 2012 before we see the first Qnx enabled BB devices.

Im currently typing this on my PlayBook. It has a very smart and quality look and feel about it. Flash is great and QNX has lots of potential.

Once RIM iron out a few bugs it will be a cracking device and i much prefer it to my iPad.

Fingers crossed for Android apps as BlackBerry world is a big let down so far, there is nothing on it worth while.

Also bridging to a BlackBerry phone is great on mine and saves extra cost and data plan.

All in all a happy customer and things should only get better!
 
I like a lot of things about the playbook, put off by reports of memory management issues and the incomplete app selection.

Will reevaluate after summer.
 
App selection is very poor but you have to start somewhere just like Apple and Android. It will only get stronger with time.

Browser doesn't feel as responsive as ipad but trumps it solely for full flash support.
