Blackberry Playbook....

that not what he is saying is it - blackberry themselves are incorporating dalvik VM so they can use android apps not the whole android OS. It makes it more appealing to know that theres loads of android apps that will run on this

I like this playbook but there no point in going and bashing Android as homycomb is just as good in multitasking and the UI is good too

Ahhh fair enough, i did read something about being able to run android apps on it...whether or not it would happen, no one really knew but its not something that i find particularly interesting at all tbh.

Not bashing Android at all...i havent paid any attention to the honeycomb from google as it just does not interest me at all...nothing google does with Android interests me....ive had a few experiences with Android and they didnt do anything for me sadly....its a great OS because of its openess compared to apples ios but thats about it really for me.

It will be interesting to see how this playbook comes up against the ipad2 and the new honeycomb tablets.

LOL nope and not interested...next please...im far more interested in this than the Android...hell im far more interested to see what Apple have in store for the ipad 2...should be some great tablets out soon either way.

So what exactly should Android be taking note of? That video shows us nothing more than running a few apps at the same time, which we have seen in Android OS. What's that much different that it makes you this excited (other that the live view tiles)?

I'm keeping my options open with the new tablet market, all three contenders (Android, BB, and HP Palm OS), have real potential. These three will really be pushing the development of each other's software and hardware. Can't wait personally :D

Seriously? Having a catalog of tens of thousands of apps available at launch doesn't interest you at all?
I think it's fantastic if it happens, Hopefully WebOS will follow suit. It's a step the newcomers need to make if they want to be able to compete on the quality of their OS and Interface, rather than those factors being overshadowed by Androids catalog of Apps.

Honeycomb is interesting too, a lot of thought has gone into making Android suitable for tablet use. The gap between the Honeycomb and QNX, WebOS interfaces is small enough to make the app catalog a deciding factor (especially since Androids licencing methods mean they will tend to have the edge in hardware and pricing)

We got one of these here, very nice to use. VERY similar to WebOS on the Palm Pre (not surprisingly). Very slick and fast for a prototype too, I think it should do well with the right marketing and price point.

Do you still have it now, What happens when you turn the PlayBook into portrait mode?

So when are we getting it?

No idea...im waiting for a date myself as im ordering a few for my company and one for myself...N America were supposed to be getting it around Feb time but the date has been put back so god knows when it will be released...hopefully around May-June time it should be out...

Ive been checking google for weeks now and nothing.... All I know is that it'll defo be out this year.

It's a while since I played with it, we got it at Xmas. I think there are a couple knocking around the office now (the CEO loves it) I will try to get my hands on one and see what it does.

Thanks, any hands on impressions would be great, especially with regards to battery life and how many apps you can have open at once. Although I appreciate that it may improve or change on the final software/hardware.

Thanks for that, I've seen a few Playbook videos but that one passed me by. Good to see that they've got portrait mode working correctly on development units! I was starting to get worry that all the demos were in landscape! :)

Remember that infamous Engadget screen shot of Playbook's poor battery life. Go to the video and freeze frame at 29 seconds --- the last row only has 1 CPU core. Once RIM enable the second core, top line performance and battery life will go up by a lot.

Go back to the video I cited before which was shot in the beginning of February --- freeze frame at 19 seconds --- the last 2 rows said CPU1 and CPU2.

ALL the videos from CES in January --- the Playbook was operating on 1 core. MOST of the Playbooks on display at the MWC last week was still operating on 1 core.

This idea of running android apps, it sounds nice in theory, but are there any killer tablet android apps worth having? I mean if something comes along in the future, then maybe, but i have seen some news sites go crazy over this idea when infact it means nothing to the every day consumer.
