Range Rover Sport

If I saw anyone wearing a £50k Rolex I would laugh in their face because they bought a £5k watch with £45k of stick-on tat rather than a really nice piece of horology.

But that aside, have you thought instead of buying a RR sport, buying an old P38 RR and adding spinnerz?

Hang on stop the bus, you got Rolex all wrong there.

Ha, good one. Have you seen the residuals for blinged-up Rolexes?

You dont have to buy a blinged up one, i paid 12k for mine and i can get 11k for it all day long, you buy the right Rolex, you get your money back.

I know, you have a very nice submariner the blue and white go beautifully, it's the only non-steel one I've seen that I like actually. I'm not sure if it's what I would buy for the money, but it is very nice.

But we both know how much it differs from £50k blinged up ones with diamond encrusted bezels.

I own a Paul Newman amongst other currently-appreciating timepeices which reside in a watch safe in London, so go on, tell me what my appreciating assets residuals are ?

Any chance we can get back onto the cars ? I just been browsing and it seems I get a lot more for my cash with the 3.0 version, around £45k. Ive read about lots of lag with these, also wondering if somewhere like DMS can sort me a remap out and if its worth it ?

Yes after set diamonds are a huge waste of money and ruin a good watch, he made an error saying a 50k Rolex, but a 50k J le C for example does say a good deal about you.

But saying "Paul Smith custom tailoring (£3k)" just sounds stupid and crass to me, and (IMO) gives totally the wrong impression. Looking like you've done well for yourself is great, but shoving it in everyone's face at every oppertunity just makes you look silly.
And I was, of course, joking about the escalade :p

+1

I have friends who do well for themselves, and I guarantee the ones that talk about how much everything cost will be told to bore off. Who cares?

DM: am I right in saying the new Cayennes have ditched most of the fancy 4x4 tech they used to have?

It used to be the case that RR > Cayenne > RR Sport in terms of offroad performance, but if Porsche decided to ditch the low range gearbox and locking diffs (Like I think they have for the new model?) then the it'll probably be "only" as competent as the RR Sport when the going gets rough.

Not that any of that matters really, its a building site not a rainforest in Brazil :p

My advice is go for a 6 month old proper Range Rover, all the toys, probably with the TDV8 in it. There are 52 within 100miles of me using Land Rovers AUV search, so your choice is endless.

Still not convinced? Find one used in the spec you like, then check that against the new list price. They've lost 10-20k in a year in some cases  You'd have to be crazy to buy a brand new Sport over a 6 month old Rangie IMO

I have made money on my daytona, watches are great useable investments, when I fall back on the gravy train it's the first place my excess cash goes.

Whats the difference between the man buying a 3k suit and a 3k car and talking about it?

Not sure whether that is a genuine question or just sarcasm?

Assuming the former, most people who buy 3k cars do so because they either can't afford something better, or because they can't justify spending more. Someone who buys a suit costing £3k, and a new car costing £65k clearly has significantly more money than most people. Constantly dropping prices like this into conversion, and explaining that you have the cash to buy the car outright is simply crass. Anyone with an shred of class wouldn't do it.

Anyway back on topic. Does it have to be a 4x4? If I was in that position I'd like like something a little different, like a Quattroporte for instance.

Well done, my girlfriends brother wears a 6263 to school and he's 15. You make out that you're in-to watches and you keep your decent watches in a safe and wear blinged-up average watches which impress Joe-Public. Hopefully one day you'll see the light.

Anyway, you want to talk about RR Sports. My advice is to get a proper RR and not a sport, get whichever engine you like driving and have it covered by a warranty.

What ???

I was trying to ask a question as to how best to pay for a £65k car, not how to finance a renault clio whilst earning £9k a year.

It seems impossible to find a forum where you can ask such questions without being trolled by jealousy. Can someone recommend me one ? I read DM's thread about his bentley where he had nothing but good feedback and praise. I guess its because I am new ?

Get a grip crass my arse, its relevant.

Exactly. I guess it's that old money/new money thing, and I'll stick with my old money thankyou very much, even though I may have less of it :p

I dont understand why the word "blinged" entered the conversation. Mine is a 6239 which isnt bling at all.

I paid £40k for it 5 years ago and the first link I see on google is this
http://www.armourwinston.co.uk/rolex-6239-paul-newman-exotic-dial-daytona.html

Which leads me to believe that I made a great investment ?

And how is that bling, where are the so called diamonds ?

The latest shape Cayenne have for gone the off road ability in favour of making a 4X4 that handles better than 99% of cars, they are phenomenal to drive especially the turbo.

I put the shape Cayenne like my wifes, say a 2008 car above a RR off road, and for towing.

Well wise up who gives a **** if its old or new, its whos got the most that counts.

I really dont like the Cayenne, which is a real shame really. I drove a few friends, insane power, the only thing i can think of that had its pace was the 2009 RS6. But it looks like its on stilts to me and like its going to fall over, and tbh, I would rather buy a GT3 if i was going to buy a porsche!
